Thompson Contender/Encore

I've been having a tough time finding out whether they are California legal. I know for sure the .45 Colt/.410 shotgun barrel combo is illegal since the barrel is too short for a "shotgun," even though the ATF defines a shotgun barrel as smoothbore and the Contender barrel is rifled...anyway, I'm into a single shot pistol phase right now and I'm looking to get one in .308 for hunting.

From what I understand, if you want a single shot handgun the Contender is THE gun to have.

Re: Thompson Contender/Encore

I am looking to get one as well. I used to use my fathers in competition and for hunting but have never bought one myself. I got the itch to get one to hunt with again so I got a couple people looking out for me if a good one comes available before I buy a new one..

I'll see if it measures up to my old Remington XP-100, what a gun that was, chambered in 7mm BR, I was pretty ticked when my Dad sold that gun

Re: Thompson Contender/Encore

I love my Contender in .357 Mag, and hope to add a Encore in 209x50 to start with followed by 12 Ga, then probably .308...

Re: Thompson Contender/Encore

As much fun as Im sure the "gusto" is, I allready have a .308 and everything needed to load the round as well as hundreds of empties. If I get anything else, it will be a 300 WSM.
