Any of you shoot the AK / SKS's?

I have a Romanian SAR-1 AK and a slew of SKS's from different nations.

Love to shoot them all, specially my older Russian SKS and the AK.

Amazing how reliable the AK (and the sks) is. The rifle has been around and in use for about 50 years and is still used by many nations army this day and age. True test of a great rifle, passed the test of time!

If it had not been a communist design, makes me wonder.....say a guy from France or Canada had designed it, would the US have adopted it in one of the calibers its available in???

FIred an AK, but in a stupid Canadian range where you're only allowed 5 rounds in the clip and only on semi. Cool rifle though.

And then there's this asshole...

Haaaaaeeeeeelllll No.

To have a totally 100% reliable rifle you have to give up some accuracy. I'm a big fan of putting them all through the same hole... but it is a battle rifle. You have to love a rifle that goes bang when you pull the trigger all the time. It's those big groups that turn me off.

I respect them but I haven't had the urge to get one. I guess your either an AR guy or an AK guy. They both have their pros and cons.

I came here to chew bubble gum and to kick some ass...and I'm all out of bubble gum.

i have 3 AK's 2 are pretty normal semi auto AK's the other is more of a tatical setup. I love the ak's they are a blast to fire you can drag the damm thing through the mud and it will still fire just like new.

I'm a big AR fan, but Kalashnikov gets as much, if not more of my respect than Eugene Stoner. Amazing design for its intended puropse, environment, and machine tools necessary to build it. Lighweight, indestructable, reliable, and more accurate than necessary for 99% of combat ranges. I dare say it it will go down in history as the best assult/combat riffle of modern times.

I have an SKS but don't really care for it. I've only shot it a few times. I keep it mainly for historical value.

Re: Any of you shoot the AK / SKS's?

If I had to only have one weapon, it would be my AK no doubt. Not as accurate as some of the others but ready to go bang when needed in rapid succession. Cheap amo too.

Re: Any of you shoot the AK / SKS's?

I think the accuracy issue of the AK is really off target (ahah, what a pun).

As some of you guys have stated the AK is a battle rifle not a sniper rifle or ground hog hunting rifle.

I personally feel many opinions on the accuracy of the AK result from shooters experience with lower grade AK's. The commercial variants and many of the very quick production replica's of the original Russian design. There are AR's out there that are not too accurate, as there are also extremely accurate ones.

Much of this issue could also be attributed to the caliber 7.62x39, as the AK74' had a bit more range due to the caliber change.

IMHO- my AK is just as accurate as my M-16 ever was in the army for hitting the size of target aimed at. On the 100m range my SAR-1 shoots constant 4" groups with iron sights and cheap ammuntion. More than enough to hit a human or 5 gallon bucket. Farthest i have shot it at a range is 150m and my groups were not much more than at 100m.

I too like the AR's (m-16) but in the army i had multiple issues with the M-16 and it being very picky with mags and being kept clean. Again i do like the AR's, actually really like, or love them........i just feel they make a better urban rifle while the AK out in the crud.

Cool to see soo many of you guys are into this stuff too.
