until you have to fix it. Dood, I like my GTI, but there's no way I'll get another VW again, until their reliability level goes WAY up.

Does that extend to Lamborghinis and Bugattis?

Re the engine, this is surely the way to go, more capital expenditure on original engine in return for lifetime better fuel economy: same argument as a turbo diesel, but in spades.

Change is as good as a rest!
