My company was supposed to do flu shots at a similar benefit fair this week, but the shots are in such short supply it had to be postponed until December.

Wonder if that's what happened here...only the doc didn't cancel. Maybe he was pissed about high gas prices?

I can't believe people would actualy get injections at a fair. Are people this stupid/cheap? If its not in a doctors office, stay the hell away from me.

I don't think it was a midgets-with-small-hands, why-are-all-these-screws-on-the-ground type fair.

not everyone has a doctor, many folks use Community Health Centers...it was a "health fair" provided by the employer, something done routinely by many company for things like mammagrams, screening, injections, etc.

having said that, when the shots are in short supply, i've seen millionaires line up outside a grocery store with everyone else to get their flu-shot (last yr)...

i'm w/ u...i'm goin to a doc, but i understand why many can't or don't and why community outreach programs such as this are needed, not just for flu-shots but for many things related to basic health care

if for some reason, you've never experienced, witnessed or understood the need for this...get out and meet your neighbors, not the ones down the street, i'm talking about the ones on the other side of the tracks...people are people

I've never had a flu shot, period. Not from a doc, not at a fair.
I'd MUCH rather allow my built in immune system take care of it.
I also haven't had the flu for at least ten years.

Not worried about anthrax, either. Way too much hype over something that takes a boatload of concentrated powder to kill even an unhealthy person. Plus, plenty of vaccine for it if necessary.
Sorry, sheep you'll have to use my base as a launchpad to a new track the same way everyone else will - ask nicely.

Here in Kansas City, the death scare of the year was West Nile virus. Turns out my zip code had the first reported case. This was two weeks after dead birds littered my yard and I came down with the worst flu I ever had with all the symptoms. No big deal, I was sick for the weekend.

No way I'm getting a flu shot. I see too many people at work getting these and they have to call in sick, because... the shot gave them a weak version of the flu.

If you sent any of those birds to be tested, my wife would have been the one doing the testing.

Around this time of year, they'll have "benefit fairs" at various med to large size businesses. Typically you'll have representatives from the various insurances, retirement investment plans, and other people offering "deals" like Costco offering cheap memberships or whatever. They're usually in the cafeteria. This is the time of year things are open, and you can decide to up the insurance if your hand is chopped off or whatever. It's also the right time, and convenient, to do flu shots in there. (it also gets people to actually come to the fair!)

We do blood drives with the Stanford Med Center in there too.
