Light one up!

To the optimist, the glass is half full. To the pessimist, the glass is half empty. To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

Re: Light one up!

That report forgot to mention the fact that fatal car accidents are rarely caused by cigarettes, while marijuana (according to the the NTSB) is causal in over 35% of all fatal crashes nationwide . . .

I wonder if that means they tested for marijuana in the blood, which we all know is there for a long time after you smoke, or they had some other way of testing?

That would usually be the hypo into the heart of the dead victim to do a full tox analysis. If it's in a high enough quantity in the heart sample after death, they were definitely "affected" . . .

It wasn't a driving under the influence article. It was a cancer related article.

Anyone that dies in a accident (maybe even if they die for any reason im not sure--but i know in car accidents they do) they do a full blood test on to see if there were intoxicants in the blood. The coroner does it, they even have statistics on it, categorized and everything.

Re: Light one up!

Right. My point was a certain, probably fairly large (maybe even 35%), portion of the country has some detectable amount of marijuana in their blood.

If somebody smoked a joint last week, it has nothing to do with his driving today.

But abtech pointed out how the blood is drawn directly from the heart... ...not my field.

Re: Light one up!

I don't smoke pot anymore, but when I did I now that I was way too paranoid to do anything stupid like get behind the wheel. I was probably more cautious when I was stoned than when I was sober. I am way more worried about people drinking and driving than smoking pot and driving. I'd trade 1 drunk driver 10 stoned drivers any day.

Re: Light one up!

I save my pot smoking for when I'm piloting a passenger jet. It steady's my hand.

Exactly. No one was promoting driving while under the influence of any drugs in the article. Marijuana is a very effective drug for a lot of ailments. It is just mind boggling that it isn't legal for medicinal purposes. It grows almost anywhere and would be cheap as dirt if made legal. You have to wonder if there is something to the notion that the drug companies are the ones keeping it illegal.

Re: Light one up!

Poison ivy grows almost anywhere, and is all natural.
Maybe everyone should be smoking it as well.
Just another Bush conspiracy.
