Serenity

Just curious if any of you guys have seen it? Saw it a couple of weeks ago, and thought it was quite good - possibly the best sci fi movie I've seen in a while. I was actually really surprised to see that Doom made more money in it's first week than Serenity did so far. Kind of dissapointing, considering doom is actually quite bad (no, really, be honest!)

We never got Firefly here on TV (well, if you call on and off screenings out of order at 1am a screening) and they only just brought it to cable the week of the movie release, kind of a shame the series was axed.

Anyway...

Re: Serenity

Saw it when it came out thought it was great also .
Hopefully Josh will be able to make a few more movies along the
same story arc .
Yea really sucks that Doom made more money . Didnt get my money though .
I think AMAZON has the Firefly series for under $30 dollars at moment .
Great way to see series in the right order and commercial free.

Peace
Ed

Yeah, I bought the DVD set for about that from a local DVD shop - Firefly is actually their top selling DVD at the moment, they keep selling out within days.

QikMike - Yeah, I agree, it may have been a bit anti-climactic, but I still think it is one of the better movies of the year. with any luck there will be more...

Re: Serenity

A couple of us saw it opening night. I don't really watch TV, don't have cable, etc. Hadn't heard of Firefly until the geeks at work drew my attention to the movie. I was really impressed as a "movification" of a TV series. It didn't feel cheap, staged, or "pasty" like TV actors normally strike me. Some moments seemed a little contrived, but this happens everywhere. On the whole it didn't strike me at all pretentious, the characters were well developed and had instant identities that came across well. Decent story, excellent visuals and art direction, good acting (and all new faces for the rest of us), good direction, it'll be a DVD purchase for sure. Of all things, it could actually have been a little longer, but I'm sure they'll do something like that on DVD anyhow ;-)

Re: Serenity

At 2 hours, I thought it was a pretty goo dlength. the pace was pretty full on, but I guess that stems from putting so much into the story. Heard the DVD may be out in time for Xmas....

Re: Serenity

After watching the missing few eposides of the Firefly series I then went and saw the movie and though that the first 20 minutes of the movie wasn't very true to what had been done before the dialog was VERy different to the usual stuff almost like it was different characters. Also it was a shame that they down played the companion angle.

Other than that it was a bloody good movie

The last (few) episodes where never aired on TV (it was canned) so its not surprising that the DVD packs sell...but thats the very reason that they could make the movie because of such a good $$ turnover on the DVD packs.

Re: Serenity

I know, old old post. However, I have become such a fan of Serenity and Firefly in the last week that I have to post something up on here

Firefly is my new favourite TV series - even if it has been cancelled I'm so angry that I only discovered it after watching Serenity a week ago.

Pick both of these up, simple as that!

Re: Serenity

I just watched it the other day and thought it was a very good movie. It definitely explained a lot about the series. River is kickass.

Re: Serenity

It's too bad the movie only broke even at the box office. $39 million budget, with $38.5 million revenue. I guess you need big names to make a movie do well at the box office. That's too bad because I think the actors/actresses all did a great job in both Firefly and Serenity - better than many more popular actors.

Re: Serenity

I agree totally - but I guess it's all about bling now. Doesn't seem to matter if the movie is good or not. I havce actually made a point of trying to see as many low budget/unknown movies as I can - I am often very pleased when I leave a cinema after watching a movie I had not even known existed 3 hours earlier.

Re: Serenity

Great movie, my whole family thoroughly enjoyed. Never saw the series, but am going to buy it.

Hopefully they keep making this in either movie or TV form.

Tigerland? never heard of it - thus, I am now compelled to find it and watch it Got the house to myself tonight, so I get to turn the volume knob way up...
