To the optimist, the glass is half full. To the pessimist, the glass is half empty. To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

Re: Microchip art

Here's a great site I found a while back while researching silicon.

http://micro.magnet.fsu.edu/creatures/index.html

A friend also told me that at least back in the day, Intel was famous for putting red herrings on their chips...also for making weird things like these shapes necessary for the operation of the device, to confuse would be reverse engineers.

For a geek like me, the metallization, even without the "hidden Waldo" stuff is great fun to look at!

Edit, here's a funny red herring for you.

http://micro.magnet.fsu.edu/creature...oddiefuse.html

And they say engineers don't have a sense of humor.

EDIT: Just saw, the site I gave is where the author found his pics.

Re: Microchip art

Also what that article says about not allowing people to do it anymore is true.

I wanted to put something in a CSP chip(so people could easily see it) I was involved with, and my company's review process will absolutely not allow any screwing around like this.

That's cool. I like the little jab at the Soviets.

And then there's this asshole...

Re: Microchip art

For some reason, this thread made me think of this.

Is a paradigm worth 20 cents?

Re: Microchip art

I remember two engineers at TI who always had this friendly rivalry going on. One guy had a fish on his chips, the other guy made a shark eating the fish on his. It was pretty funny the first time I saw it.
