Torsional Contact Lenses?

Does anyone have Torsional Contact Lenses? That is the only soft contact a Baaa-lind sheep can wear. However the Doc said they might dry out when used in wind (on the bike) and not super comfy. I am not sure I could put something in my eye but it would be sweet not having to pull the glasses off and on everytime I take hte helmet off.

Re: Torsional Contact Lenses?

My right lens is a "toric"; does that mean the same thing?

Is a paradigm worth 20 cents?

Re: Torsional Contact Lenses?

The other option is to buy a flip top lid although the general consensus seems to be that they don't hold up as well as a conventional lid in an impact.

Re: Torsional Contact Lenses?

Not sure I thought he said torsional. It is for astigmatism, only kind I can get other than hard.

Flip top no way (and they are banned at some track days)

Re: Torsional Contact Lenses?

I hear they have this new fangled thingy where they can correct your vision and then you don't have to wear glasses or contacts lenses any longer.
I think it's called something like LASIK.

Re: Torsional Contact Lenses?

Yup, the contact lenses for astigmatism are "toric" lenses. Problem is, they're pricey. And, since they're soft lenses, they will need replacing every year or so. I tried gas-permeable rigid lenses many, many years ago. I just couldn't adjust. The toric lenses at the time would not correct the astigmatism in my left eye (it was really bad). LASIK was the answer for me!

Re: Torsional Contact Lenses?

I have an astigmatism in my right eye and do not have problems with my contracts. But I do not have dry eyes, when riding if I get a bit of wind in the eyes they just water.

And noit has nothing to do with the Susuki and I am not crying

When I get my completion bonus I am thinking of putting it toward Wave Front Laser surgery, but it will cost like 4,000

Re: Torsional Contact Lenses?

I don't know if you would be a candidate, but I will cast my vote for lasik too I have been nothing but happy with it, and I now see better than 20/15(almost x-ray )

Painless and very easy to care for afterwards, don't worry about it at all, it is much easier than it sounds

Re: Torsional Contact Lenses?

Only problem with LASIK is that doctors still have no clue what the long term ramifications may be. And artificial corneas are still well off in the future from what I understand at this point.

5 of the 6 doctors where I used to work were against it. And once I learned about how the procedure worked I could see why.

If you are considering LASIK please read up on it as much as you can.

I did, and I had the procedure done. I would also do it over again in a heartbeat.

Re: Torsional Contact Lenses?

My sister in law was semi blind with coke bottles for glasses had LASIK, she now sees well without them, so it can be wonderous.

But for me I try to minimize the cutting and treatments as I will need cateract surgery and/or worse before I get stewed I had an injury when I was young and was blind in one eye for a time. Neither eye recovered 100% and the risk for long term problems went sky high for me. To be honest I am not sure if I could put a contact in as getting anything near my eyes takes a lot of effort. But I was curious for the convenience

I know people who have had it rave about it.

The potential complications down the line due to the compromise of the structural integrity of the cornea would keep me from having it done.

But who knows? Hopefully that will never come to fruition.
