And the waiting begins...

...for my CCW permit to arrive. With the way things move in Detroit, I guess I'll have plenty of time to shop for a new G23.

I took the class to get mine and never applied for the license. The restrictions on carrying made it not worth it. I don't know what the law is in MI, but in OH, if the weapon is in the car while loaded it had to be exposed and in plain view, OR locked up in a box and away from the driver.

That right there ended it for me. I need to get the license anyway, just as a "vote" for said legislation.

Re: And the waiting begins...

Sheep, the county office says it's a 6-8 month waiting period. HD, in Michigan you can have it concealed on your person when in your auto. If you get pulled over though, you have to inform the LEO immediately that you're carrying. I'm not sure how often I'll carry, but it'll be nice to have if I want to.

Re: And the waiting begins...

IN CA they're hard to get. But once you have one, the laws are outstanding. Concealed in the car and no need to inform the officer.

Add to this the fact that if you screw up and have your gun stored with an (unloaded) mag in it, miss a padlock or something stupid like that, it's quite easy to end up with a felony in CA without the permit. This is actually the main reason I'd like one.

Re: And the waiting begins...

I just took the class to get mine. It will take no more than 45 days here in Virginia. $50 for a five year permit. And the laws here are great!

You only have to inform LEO's in NH if they specifically ask.

If you never try anything new, you'll miss out on many of life's great disappointments.

I'm a little biased but I say a S&W 1911 "Commander". Alloy frame, light(for a 1911), and has planty of stopping power. I've put over 1000 rounds down the bbl and not a single issue has come about in it's functionality.

Seriously though it all comes down to personal preference and what fits you and you needs. Shoot as many as you can before you buy.

Re: And the waiting begins...

That thing's huge for a comfy concealed carry weapon. I'm leaning towards something a little easier to carry like a Taurus pt 140 or 145. They are concealeable, .40 or .45 cal , and priced well at the mid $300s

Re: And the waiting begins...

Well good news...sorta. Michigan State Police said my background check cleared and I find out tomorrow whether my application made it before the gun board this month.

Good thing I'm not in a hurry...
