Read this and weep

If any of you fellows get over to Europe, see if you can find time to visit one of the war cemetaries. Incredibly moving places.

Re: Read this and weep

The only one I have visited thus far has been the American Cemetary at Cambridge...very sober indeed...

Re: Read this and weep

It may sound stupid to some of you (especially BDA), but if you get a chance, visit the American and GERMAN cemetaries.

I've been on what the military calls "staff rides" to Normandy (x2) and the Belgium/Luxembourg area for the Battle of the Bulge. Each time we visited both the American and German cemetaries. Very powerful, somber, but moving sites.

Re: Read this and weep

Too bad we ever went over there and had to have those cemetaries created.

Re: Read this and weep

It's likely that neither of us would be here if we hadn't.

Something to think about Friday.

I've been to Arlington Cematary, what a humbling experience. The changing of the guards is a site to behold in itself.

It's amazing how stupid some people can be.

It's damn likely that the German language would not be an elective in your public school either.........

I once visited a cemetary in Normandy, not far from St Lo. Only a small one, I'm guessing a couple of hundred graves. Half of them British and the others German. Side by side. Reading the headstones was very sobering. More than a few of the German soldiers were teenagers. Tragic.

On side issue I'm going to see the film "Downfall" this weekend. Anyone seen it? It got fantastic feviews this side of the pond.

That's because we went to meet them over there, before they got here.
