Any one wear a Suunto watch?

Thinking about getting a Suunto Vector to replace my G-Shock that a buddy of mine lost. I know this is more than 2x the price, but Im looking to upgrade to a temp/alt model anyhow. I looked at this watch and liked it, just wanted to know if anyone had any experience with it. In contrast Im looking at the Casio Pathfinder triple sensor as well, though I like the Suunto a bit better.

Im looking for a black tough watch to use for everyday, outdoor, and Police Dept wearing. I have a dress watch as a seperate watch so it doesnt need to look real pretty.

Thanks,
Chris

Re: Any one wear a Suunto watch?

I don't know much about the Suunto, only that it seems to be pretty popular. I however did look at the Casio Pathfinder, but decided to go with the Polar AXN500, which has what you are looking for in addition to compass and heart beat monitor. It just seemed to be a better buy when comparing price point and functionality.

How's the heart rate monitor? Reasonably accurate? Altimeter?

That looks exactly like what I'm looking for in a watch. The silver even looks kinda cool. Some friends had the older Polar models that did all of that. Big, ugly, pricey and totally inaccurate.

Maybe I'll have to get the word out for Christmas.

Never used their watches, but I've been using a Suunto dive computer for several years. Great features, very reliable, and an all-around good deal!

Re: Any one wear a Suunto watch?

I've got a Suunto dive watch/computer. the only thing about it is to mind the glass/face, as it seems to scratch easy. That may not be an issue with non dive models though...

The face is one of the things I am concerned about. With that much surface area, it is sure to pick up scratches easily...

TAG HEUER. Had mine for 11 years now of daily wear, use and abuse while firefighting and diving as well. Still looks and works great.

I do know of a few people that use PDA screen protectors (cut them down to the right size)

I don't use mine for anything other than when I'm diving, so I just use the dicky big face protector that comes with it. Not very nice above water (though the watch ain't pretty to begin with) but it works well. Though lik eI said, a cut down LCD screen protector should do the trick.

I've been thinking about a Tag for a while... That or a Breitling.

And then there's this asshole...

I haven't used the watch much since I've gotten it a month ago. I did try the heart rate monitor out and seemed okay, but I think I need to calibrate the unit a little more (base measurements). I haven't used the altimeter at all, but do plan soon when I get my butt out riding (bicycle) the mountains. The compass on the unit seems a little whack! I can't seem to get it to work right, but then I 've only tried 2 times.

Check back with me next year and I'll have an update for ya.
