Property Tax

What a friggin' ripoff. Double taxation at its finest.

Is a paradigm worth 20 cents?

Re: Property Tax

Until you've lived in NJ, you have no idea how high property taxes are. Highest in the nation, and still climbing.

Mine is on my car, bike and the truck that I sold earlier this year (that was replaced by the car). Should have waited until Jan to buy my car instead of in Dec. Instant property tax liability.

We don't have property tax on non-business items like cars/trucks/bikes etc. in Michigan.

Don't say that too loud.
The school boards around here like to tax you for owning anything.

Re: Property Tax

School district taxes are capped unless the voters agree to additional millage.

On the downside, it's snowing.

We sure do. Kinda sucks I have to pony up about $450 when I could be buying myself a nicer Christmas present.

That is just because we pay it every year in our license fees, which are based on original purchase price of the vehicle ... no depreciation allowed. My 10 year old, 160,000 mile Bronco still gets taxed as a brand new $32k car.

Michigan is just better at hiding it than other states.

I wish ours were capped. The friggin' school boards can get all five of their members together and vote on a property tax increase pretty much when they want.
Not enough people realize the power the boards have around here and therefore don't get involved enough in the politics of it. The boards are also fuzzy as they cross city borders, which helps confuse the easily confused.

[rant]Many wonder why schools "don't have enough money" (yeah right), yet boards, districts and administrators help piss so much of it away it is scary.
They are a bigger black hole than any Pentagon or NASA project as far as secrecy and accountability go.[/rant]

Oh, and it "snowed" here the other day. Sunny, bright and below 40 today.

We're looking at a double digit property tax hike here next year.

Abolish public education.

And then there's this asshole...

Re: Property Tax

Be glad you don't have a "view Tax"
http://www.boston.com/news/local/new...new_hampshire/

Quote:
ORFORD, N.H. --The one-room cabin David Bischoff built in a cow pasture three years ago has no electricity, no running water, no phone service and no driveway.

What it does have is a wide-open view of the surrounding hills -- a view valued at $140,000, according to the latest townwide property revaluation.

The so-called "view tax" increased the value of his property sevenfold, from $22,900 to $162,900, a figure he believes is far more than its actual value. He expects a sharp jump in his $500 annual property taxes as well.

"I'd be happy if they assessed me $50,000 for the view," said Bischoff, chairman of the Board of Selectmen.

It's amazing how stupid some people can be.

For your sake, I hope there is a decimal point in front of the double digits.
