Dell 2005FPW or new Gateway 21 widescreen?

Anyone have any input on which they would get and why?

Dell Home has the Dell 2005FPW (20) Digital LCD Flat Panel 1680x1050, 600:1 contrast ratio, 12ms response, DVI, originally $579, now $434.25 shipped free. No tax in some areas. Exp 11/30

I'd be paying tax..

or the new Gateway 21" for $585 (could probably get it for 540ish at BB with a coupon)...I seen it in Costco as part of a system (not available seperately) and was pretty impressed with it....wasn't able to test any games etc...but..

Shipping and tax are usually pretty close. For $120-130 less, I'd go Dell.

No practical experience with either monitor though.

Re: Dell 2005FPW or new Gateway 21 widescreen?

What about the non HDCP for Vista on the Dell?

Just a couple comparo on spec, think they're important?

Dell Gate
Contrast 600:1 1000:1
View angle +-88 V&H +178 v&H
pix pitch .258 .27
respons 12ms 8ms gray2gray

Any idea if the Dell can be rotated to portrait mode auto?

Does anyone know if these flat-panels are suitable for gaming? Someone at work told me a CRT is better/faster if you're a gamer, something about the screen warming up or some such?

By the numbers the Gateway definately looks better. But I don't know if there's a practical difference.

I leave it to the more monitor savvy than me. I will say the response is really important to gamers, and 8mS is VERY fast. 12mS is still very good. I'm pretty sure both of my monitors are slower than that.

I've read that most good rep LCDs with a refresh of 16ms and under are good for gaming...obviously the lower the better. My brother (19") and a coworker (2005FPW) have a Dell LCD and are very happy with them and the gaming performance.

Re: Dell 2005FPW or new Gateway 21 widescreen?

I would go ViewSonic over the Dell and Gateway offerings as I like my ViewSonic very well and have had other good experiences with their stuff.
Between the other two, if you want the better overall monitor, go Gateway - but I personally don't think it is ~$150 better than the Dell, so I'd go with the Dell as the better value.

$334 shipped

Might be worth calling and asking if you can use that coupn code anyway. If not, cancel your order, then reorder.

Same deal. In CA we have to pay sales tax and an $8 treehugger fee
