Help backing up data in Outlook Express?

If you've got a shitpile of data, documents, .jpegs and various information saved in folders within MS Outlook Express, what's the best way to back this data up? I don't have a burner.

I was thinking about buying a USB Flash Memory device like this one.

Or....could I just save this stuff to my Canon media card? I already have a USB card reader and a smallish (64MB) media card along with the 8MB card my camera came with.

TIA!

Re: Help backing up data in Outlook Express?

First you gotta find out how much data you have. If you have a copy of Office and neither you or the lady is using Outlook, I'd suggest firing it up and importing all your data in there. With Outlook you only have to back up one file for all of your data. For OE your mail is stored in multiple files as well as your address book which is stored in a completely different directory. Not to mention that Outlook is leaps and bounds ahead of OE.

Anywho...

Data file location for OE is C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

*the x's are actually a bunch of numbers/letters.

You'll need to back up all the files in there.

You will have to open Explorer, go to Tools & Folder Options, click on the View tab and then Show Hidden files and folders before you'll be able to see that file path since it's hidden.

I can't remember where the address book is located, but if you do a search for *.wab on your hard drive it should find it.

For the best solution that is easy buy a cheap external USB drive (firewire is better if you have the connection which is doubtful. After backing it up unplug it and take it to work with you and put it in your locker. That way in the case of a disaster (fire, tornadoe, theft, etc) you have the backup in a separate location. Once a week take it home and refresh it.
