Advice on which console to buy

I've had it! After bashing consoles in favor of PCs for gaming, I'm about ready to throw in the towel.

LINK

So my question is, what console should I buy? I've played PS2 several times and liked it. Owned a first-gen Xbox last winter, sold it though. I suppose one of those newish slimline PS2s would be the right choice if I want to keep things on a budget...or should I hold out and see if I can score a 360 on sale after Xmas?

My game of choice are FPS'ers if that makes any difference, so consideration to software titles plays into the mix.

Thanks guys, and Happy Thanksgiving!

PC...you can use it for more than playing games/DVD's/CD's.

Stick with the PC... Dont give up so easily... But if you are hell-bent on getting a console, go with one of the Xboxes.

Re: Advice on which console to buy

people are having big issues with the 360 not working. alot of demo units in stores are overheating and burning up. other people cant finish games because the system crashes at certain points, some wont load etc. wait on the 360 for sure

I had an Xbox and I had Halo, the first one. I was a colorful, interesting game, but I'm not great at the gaming paddle interface. I'm much better with mouse/keyboard.

What to do...

Re: Advice on which console to buy

It's an acquired skill (the interface). Of course it's no competition, the mouse/ keyboard combo has it hands down for first person games (halo type games).

The Xbox has the advantage of "pickup and play" games that you don't have to remember all the controls of "keyboard" type thinking games. With my schedule, I'd rather pickup and play racing/ fighting type games and play for a short while than spend hours learning interface and intricacies.

I'm a shallow gamer with not a lot of time I guess.

I'll be picking up an XBOX360 in about 6 months to a year, probably when PS3 comes out, and they drop the price of the X.

The price they're getting for the various bundled systems is staggering, at least to me. Not saying it's not worth it, it just strikes me as alot of cash.

For one of the top tier 360 packages, could I put together a decent gaming rig?

This could spawn a whole nuther thread...

Re: Advice on which console to buy

The 360 is in it's "first generation" of games and from what I've read they're not incredible. It takes developers time to utilize the full power of any system.

The original XBOX has a good bit of life left in it's cycle, and if you haven't played through the games available it will keep you happy for years. Not to mention some of the best titles are now available for around $20.

You can definately get a really, really good gaming rig for under $1000.

I won't buy the new X until it comes down to around $200-$250, for the top tier one.

No rush (for me).
