Which two seat roadster?

Is the Pontiac Solstice legit? I'm not a Pontiac fan. Curious what the concensus here is.

Consider the price points. The S2000 is considerably more expensive than the others.

Dude, you know what I think.

And I'm betting Freq will have my back if he sees this thread.

If you don't want to spend the scratch for the S, don't go drive one.

Agreed. And I'm not buying anything. If I buy a two seat sportscar it's going to be a vette. I'm just curious what people think.

S2k is a cool car though. I'm still jealous that my sister-in-law bought one, even if it is a 2001 or something.

Re: Which two seat roadster?

Why not add the Saturn Sky as well? It is much better looking than the Solstice.
That said, the current model of both are quite underpowered compared to the S2000. There is a turbo version coming, though that will be in the ~250 bhp area that will make things more interesting.
The Sky is far and away better than a Miata in looks, performance and price, but can't touch the performance of an S2000. Yet.
Seeing the Solstice in person it looks a little better than pictures, but still rather ugly in my opinion.

Re: Which two seat roadster?

I bet the turbo'd Solstice/Sky ends up a bit more torquey than the S, but that the chassis will suck in comparison.

I picked the Honda... obvious choice. The Solstice is good-looking IMO but about 500 pounds heavier than it needs to be.

And then there's this asshole...

I picked "Other" for Boxster S. I would, wouldn't I?

"Other"

Used Corvette ragtop. You should be able to snag one for a decent price, especialty this time of year. I bought my '95 when it was only 5 years old for half the original sticker price, and it really hasn't depreciated much at all since then.

Re: Which two seat roadster?

Heavy?! You cheap ass bastard! You're gonna buy a Vette? What, are they letting 'em go for $20k in your neck of the woods?

When I was queing up to pick my son up from school a few weeks back there was a dude there with a black Solstice. I have to say, in person that car looks super sweet.

Personally, I'd go with an MR Spyder. It's small, light, perfectly balanced, and has more than enough pop to be a fun driver.

Re: Which two seat roadster?

I voted for the S2000, more parts availible aftermarket, better looking and honda reliability to boot

Mind you the solstice can look pretty decent given the right workings...

Re: Which two seat roadster?

My attorney is on his second S2000. They fly, like a race car with a license plate, really. However, if I didn't have the money for the Honda, I'd probably give the Saturn a close look. It's a very nice looking roadster IMO.

The other two? They both have their merits.

This review of the Pontiac and the Mazda might be of interest.

Outside of a centrifugal blower, what do you think the aftermarket has to offer the S2000?

Maybe some nice struts. Other than that I think most of the parts are ****. The Honda stuff is better. People get excited about airboxes and such, but nobody realizes a power gain worth talking about. They do make more noise, and are more prone to suck water.

With exhausts it seems to be the same story. Noisy fart cans with minimal if any gains.

The S2000 is so good from the factory, you'll have to work hard to improve it with bolt ons. It's a lot like a motorcycle in that way too.

People do change the gearset for their applications, but with 4.11s stock, I think any lower would suck in a daily usage vehicle.
