err . . . Seasons Greetings

A Holiday* message

HAPPY HOLIDAYS*

*Disclaimer: This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It implies no promises by the wishers to actually implement any of the wishes for themselves or others, is void where prohibited by law and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish expires within one year or until the issuance of a subsequent greeting, whichever comes first.

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, our best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice (with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all).

Furthermore, we offer our (non-binding) best wishes for the onset of the generally accepted calendar year of 2006 but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions have helped make America great. (Which is not to imply that
America is any greater than any other country or is the only "America" in the western hemisphere). These wishes are offered without regard to race, creed, color, age, physical ability, choice of computer platform or sexual preference of the wishee.

Happy (if happiness is within your belief systems)
Holidays (if you recognize them)

Good one.
But to add my - Merry Christmas. No "Happy Greetings" PC BS. If you don't like it, change the channel.

I totally agree. I received this from some stupid list, but thought it was pretty spot on. If I say Merry Christmas and you don't celebrate Christmas, then the wish is still that you have some positive occurance during this particular time of the year. If that bothers you, well then have a nice day . . .

Re: err . . . Seasons Greetings

Yeah, the PC'ng has gone a little over the edge.

On the upswing though, next year the kids will be able to start later and get out earlier,
No Christmas (winter) break
No Easter (Spring) break
No Colombus Day
No Martin Luther King Day
No Presidents Day (George Washington's birthday)

Thanksgiving???? Can they still have that????

Did I miss anything?????

Yeah, we can still celebrate the slaughter of Indians, and the stealing of their land, at least at my kids schools. I think they call it in PC circles "Winter Harvest".

Re: err . . . Seasons Greetings

I actually forwarded this to our Personnel Analyst at the City with this tag-line:

Christine,

I was thinking about passing out "Holiday" cards to my staff. Could you review this and see where "our" liability lies, and if these would be acceptable:

She responded:

You had me for the first few lines. I could already hear you reciting the disclaimer. Thanks.

(The City I work for changed to an "Employee Appreciation Dinner" from "Christmas Dinner" about 4 years ago)

If she worked in Santa Monica, they'd probably make her use the name "Xtine" for official communications.
