Damn, not much margin for error. I like the shot where you can see the wake behind one of the planes.

Re: Mirage - flying low !!

The ground effect flying that low has to be weird.

What's that like pilots?

Re: Mirage - flying low !!

Anyone remember that still photograph taken I think in the 80's for a brittish jet somewhere in the middle east...pilots were getting flack for low flybys fromthe locals...and someone got a picture. IIRC, the jet was about 5 feet over the top of a car.

Re: Mirage - flying low !!

When they're that low they come up on you unbelievably fast and quiet. I sympathise with those guys that hit the deck as it came over. We were buzzed backpacking once, by an F-18 100-200 feet above us, and I'd say half the group hit the ground.

Nope, loud pipes save lives, so you can always hear them coming, especially when they're on the burner

Re: Mirage - flying low !!

Only thing that would've made that experience cooler was him lighting the burner.

Give it 10 years, and in my retelling, he probably will.

In reality that was the flying equivalent of racing and doing wheelies on city streets. Not to wish it on anyone, but the margin for error is zero that low and fast and it's only a matter of time until someone pays. One distraction and it's all over. Someone do the math for me. 250+ kts at 20-50ft = time to impact with even just a slight downward vector. Not to mention the damage the salt-water is causing lol.

Anyway, I must be mellowing a bit so I'll get off the soap-box. I'd have done that myself in a heartbeat 10yrs ago and the video was DAMN COOL!
