Vizio 37" LCD...

Damn the .org ...someone here got a new Plasma which promptly 'reminded' me that I have been meaning to replace my 27" Pana. CRT unit with an actual HD LCD.

I started looking at the Sony Bravia 32" and then went to Costco to get one (which means 'look around') and was studying the others. i really didn't want to spend more then ~1500$, and the Bravia is ~1700$, no big deal...until I saw a Vizio 37" LCD with a few more features for about $1500.

http://www.vinc.com/site/products/product_l37.html

So while this could turn into yet another 'what kind of tv do i get?' thread...I'm actually just asking if anyone here has useful experience or input on the Vizio lines (or gateway, since I believe Viz. OEM's some of the GW units).

I'm not an a/v nut, I basically want to play Xbox360 and PS3 on it every now and then. The ability to hookup a pc is eh, interesting - I probably will just cause I can, but don't plan on using this as a monitor.

My primary goal with this is larger, better, more correct viewing area then what I have now. I don't plan on getting Hd programming for it at the moment...as I seriously hardly watch tv, I mostly game on it and watch DVD's or mp2/4 from my laptop.

The biggest 'excuse' factor I have for the TV thus far is that my job has some silly plasma's/lcd's around here, and my job involves reviewing a good amount of various content on a frequent basis (broadcast/dv/recorded/mpegs/etc.). I end up going home and don't even turn on the TV cause I end up squinting I find, like I'm trying to look at it through a screendoor or something - its weird.

thanks gang

Yeah, this place sucks because of this type of action. If people are not ranting about the aftermarket parts they got for their bike, their yapping about the other goodies they buy. I have spent so much money on stuff because of this site. Computers, ipods, software, and such. I think I have to leave this place. It is a shame that I am too addicted to the hell hole.

Oh, and yeah, nice screen. Something else I need to purchase. Thanks....

NH - thank you , what sealed the deal for me here was really when I was 'home for the holidays' with the gf and I mentioned picking one up after the holidays, and she said "you've been talking about that forever" . This is like many nights of prayers answered...so I did make haste...

The brand -eh it's not entirely a 'no name' but it certainly isn't a Wega XBR. They use the word 'value' several times, which typically = anti-SSG. But, Costco has a 'loose' return policy, so I wasn't too worried. I did read several write-ups about their products and they seem to get recognized as a half-decent brand. Sounds like they had their growing pains and now focus on 'mainstream-ish' type of stuff.

I also read a few places that their glass is Samsung anyways, which is allegedly some of the highest-lifetime stuff out there right now. This set is rated for 50k hours, has a zero bright pixel QA, and has a shatload of inputs, tuners, upconverters, and an atsc pickup for terrestrial if I wanted it. I would have liked something cablecard ready, but the next gen of cablecards will be here soon enough anyways.

Havent done much more then play some Xbox on it, but so far I'm liking it...will get some SD tv hooked up to it this weekend.

Oh, and just to clarify - the remote for my old tv broke, so I really didn't have a choice in the matter

I'm not a sports nut but I find myself watching sports in HD at the stores when I was looking awhile back...the above might just happen, well - watching it anyways

Re: Vizio 37" LCD...

geek treat: the undercarriage of the remote is rubberized, and the remote itself is very well balanced and quite friendly to use and learn. It's the dumbest simplest remote ever, but I like it's layout.

Re: Vizio 37" LCD...

That bluetooth keyboard and mouse are coming in pretty handy right about now.

It's big enough that I can surf and have a pip window thats about ~15" with my xbox in the corner...those nights at home oncall won't be so bad now

I was just about to come on here with my first rant (besides that I'm oncall for new years ) but then realized the equipment is smarter then me.

Went out to best buy, snagged the HDTV cable set for the Xbox. Came home and made it happen - was noticing funky striations and some odd macroblocking sorta stuff going on. Was freaking out for about an hour trying all the games that claimed to support various HD resolutions and they all did it...now I'm wondering why my analog hd signals are worse then composite video, and getting upset.

Finally went into the settings on the Xbox and found out when I plugged in the HD cable set, it actually changed the menu around and I had to select 480/720/1080 functionality now instead of just enabling widescreen.

Now I'm really liking life ...but damn is motoGP3 hard to get used to with a controller...((picked that up as well, with a few other games)).

Re: Vizio 37" LCD...

If it't not too late...Costco coupon book in the mail. 42" Vizio 42" Plasma HDTV $300 off coupon (making it $1499.99).

Re: Vizio 37" LCD...

Its official.... you suck....

Congrats on the new toys. Was out looking at plasmas this weekend. Think I will go that route instead of LCD. To me, the picture is clearer. Someday.....
