Greatest Supercar

Within the last 25ish years.

Not counting concepts, one-offs, tuner specials, race cars and extremely limited-production homologations. Which one would you want most? I put the F1 first because all the other answers are wrong... but feel free to suggest omissions. Vote based on whatever criteria you think most relevant.

And then there's this asshole...

Re: Greatest Supercar

I voted McLaren F1, but I think you forgot what will be the first true challenger, the Ferrari FXX.

Maybe it falls under your "super limited", but I think it should be in there as it was built to be nothing but the greatest supercar.

Side note, did you read Gordon Murray's review of the SLR? Very interesting supercar design tidbits.

I think you're wrong about the FXX... seems to me it is designed to be a race-car / track toy for rich people... I wouldn't consider it to be a supercar like the others here. I read a few of Murray's comments about the SLR... This bit was in a recent C&D:

Quote:
Murray let loose with some humorous scorn for Mercedes' corporate understanding of engineering, strange as that sounds. He said that when Mercedes sent over its design for the SLR, "we had to move the engine back three feet." He said Mercedes officials couldn't fathom how one man—himself—could be in charge of so many things at McLaren. During the SLR's development, for example, he quoted conversations he had when Mercedes would telephone and ask him to send over this or that expert on the project to confer with the home office's engineers in Stuttgart.
In one call, Mercedes said it would need to meet with his aerodynamics expert, adding, "Now, who would that be?"
"That would be me," he replied.
A week later the company would call again. "Now we need to see your passive-safety expert. Who would that be?"
"I'm afraid that would be me," Murray would reply. And so on and so forth.
Mercedes has become far too big to work efficiently, he said, and so has McLaren when it's in a partnership with such a big company.
I was flipping through a recent Road and Track and came across this:

Link

I was excited, because when the Veyron came out, one of the first things I thought was "I wonder what IGM thinks of this car?"... He says a lot of what I expected. He basically criticizes it for placing form before function. (while proving to the reader how much better his F1 still is) Kind of an arrogant bastard, but a lot of geniuses are probably like that. He is the Howard Roark of cars.

If you don't have a copy of "Driving Ambition" order one now. One of my most prized possessions.

And then there's this asshole...

Re: Greatest Supercar

Who chose F50? I find that car fascinating because not very much is known about it... AFAIK it uses a pneumatic-valved F1-derived motor... An F1 car for the road.

And then there's this asshole...

Re: Greatest Supercar

I picked the McLaren F1. But the Bugatti Veyron is not to be triffled with. I do not see any other manufacturer challenging that car for years to come. It just costs too much to develop.

Be fast or be last.

Re: Greatest Supercar

edit: regarding the Veyron

I think of it as the Hayabusa of supercars... the fastest but not the best. Definitely impressive (and gorgeous) though... I am waiting for the price to come down a bit on the 1/18th AutoArt diecast.

And then there's this asshole...

I would also add that the Pagani Zonda "F" should also be included, as it will be super rare. http://www.seriouswheels.com/top-200...ni-Zonda-F.htm

Re: Greatest Supercar

Why isn't the new Z06 on there? It's playing w/ some of those at a lower price point to boot.

I can't answer this question as I have no idea. I don't really follow the whole super car thing. Those cars are sexy for sure, but just don't really do it for me for some reason.

And too bad tuners cars aren't included. I'd pick a Lingenfelter twin turbo Corvette. There getting more power then almost all the cars on that list.

Me either. Just pick the one you find most desirable, for whatever reason.

Re: Greatest Supercar
