Schumi on Rossi F1

Ferrari team leader, Michael Schumacher has warned MotoGP ace Valentino Rossi that he could struggle to find that 'last little bit' of speed needed to be competitive, if he moves to F1.

Never happen. Especially with the Ferrari.
For starters, the Ferrari team got killed by the quick and idiotic rule changes just before this season started, and now going to a completely new engine configuration next year will put them behind a bit more. Both Honda and Toyota have a boatload of V8 racing technology. Ferrari will be alright, but not the uber-dominant team they would have to be for Rossi to even do well.
Second, there are at least ten better drivers than he in F1.
Third, he will play second fiddle to Schumi in ways no teammate of Rossi has ever seen.

Yep. Winning the Dart championship in your local pub doesn't get you into the front row in a gunfight . . .

and your girlfriend too.

It'll be definitely tough for him, but I wouldn't bet against him. People (GP riders in the paddock) said a lot worse about the M1 and his chances on it and you see how that worked out.

22 days until it begins...

Hey, anybody that WANTS front row in a gunfight can have my spot!

Deez, Rossi's an extraordinary rider, and there is precedent - but I think Surtees and Hailwood had more auto racing under their belt than Vale at this point.

Maybe he'll be about as good as Jordan at baseball!

Re: Schumi on Rossi

He'll get to some sort of 4 wheel racing - without a doubt.

Whether or not its F1 - that'll depend on how much $$ he can bring to the team.

I believe Ferrarri will do better this year now that F1 is allowing tire changes again, those Bstones will be more competitive this year. kimi and alonso will have to be on the watch for that sleek ferrarri V8 this year.

VEE DUBB in da house... representin deutchland!

Re: Schumi on Rossi

I don't see any current F1 drivers going over to MotoGP for a challenge!

With time and some more experience I think Rossi would do well, winning a championship, I'm not sure.

Look, lean, believe!!

I totally agree, which is why I stated they'd be alright. I think that is the single most idiotic rule they have ever forced on the teams. And it was done for one reason only - to stop Ferrari. And it worked.
I still think both the Toyota and Honda engines will be better from the get go. They've been building racing V8s for many years. Ferrari will catch up, maybe in '07, but not this year unfortunately.
It's also looking like everyone will be on Bridgestones soon.

Re: Schumi on Rossi

Here's a question... what's the displacement limit now vs next year? Is there really going to be that much engine development, or could Renault merely eliminate 2 cylinders, adjust the bore and call it good?

I realize the car will have to be built, geared, and balanced accordingly...
