2006 Winter Olympics

Who's watching? Seems that the Olympics ('specially the winter ones) have fallen out of favor with most Americans... Or am I wrong?

I watched the 5000m speedskating this morning, and have been checking out highlights over the course of the day. Our women's hockey team beat Italy 18-0. Kinda feel bad for them.

And then there's this asshole...

Re: Winter Olympics

The winter Olympics haven't really fallen out of favor with Americans, remember 4 years ago?
More likely it's just the time difference and coming down off a high from one of the best winter Olympics ever produced.

Re: Winter Olympics

I guess the comment was based on listening to The Jungle... so I guess that's a poor stereotype. We're hosting in 2010, so this one is like a warm-up.

Salt Lake City was awesome... especially when we kicked your asses in hockey.

And then there's this asshole...

Re: Winter Olympics

Don't forget that SLC2002 also made boatloads of money, unlike many (well, pretty much all of them in the past) host cities that had to get bailed out big time.
The euros will do better in the skiing events this time because it's all back on their shitty icy "snow".
Hockey? Is that some kind of game I should care about?
We had 34 medals, 10 of which were gold. How many did you guys have? Half that?
Yeah, it was cool having home court advantage and alpine events on actual skiable snow. I bet we end up with ~20 at best this time around. At least those 2010 Olympics in wannabe france will be closer to home.
The big stink in the American news right now is that Michelle Kwan is having thoughts of pulling out of the games - after fighting to get a place on the team without skating in the national championships.
That and our best skeleton racer was banned by the IOC because he's bald and was using some hair restoration remedy.

I bet you'd care about the game if you'd won gold. ....

Not really. I've never really cared for hockey. It's one of the Olympic events I never watched any of.

You could get tarred and feathered for saying something like that where I live.

Re: Winter Olympics

I like watching the speed skating. That stuff is cool as schizzle. The snowboarding is cool too, but I don't like that it is "judged". I can't stand the ice dancing or whatever that crap is. None of that type of skating interests me at all. Unless the chick is hot. Even then it's not really worth it.

What they need to do is get all of those beach volleyball girls from the Summer Games and make them play in the snow....wearing the same garb.

I'm an Olympics junkie. I love them. I'm determined to learn how to speedskate this year.

Re: Winter Olympics

The women's hockey is a bit of a joke. There are really only 2, well, 1 team that's any good. Sweden was supposed to be a contender but the Canadians creamed them oh what was it, twelve-nothing? That's a damn shame.

And then there's this asshole...
