Cambodia, anyone?

Anyone been there? I've got this thing in my head about going to see Angkor Wat (the ruined temples that were in Tomb Raider), and to be honest, I think it's time to stray totally away from the usual tourist paths. I'm looking more and more at "not so tourist friendly" places. Not 100% sure if I'm going yet , but it looks very likely that in about 3 weeks time I'm be walking through jungles and checking out ruins.

Also planning to go to the Philippines to snorkel with whale sharks. From there I'm gonna head to Europe to ski and visit family, and then to the good Ol' USA and Canada - to ski, visit friends - and go to Vegas!

So, anyone been, or know someone who's been to Cambodia?

My uncle was in Cambodia many years ago during the Vietnam war. He fled Vietnam because of the commies and ended up in Cambodia. However he spent most of his time hiding from the Kamer Rogue, so he didn't see much of Cambodia except for the underside of floor boards of huts.

Sorry, that was pretty useless to you.

Re: Cambodia, anyone?

I have an aquaintance who went there to photograph the ruins and he had a blast. Said it was amazing.

The Travel Channel just had a show about Angor Wat the other day and it does look pretty cool.

Re: Cambodia, anyone?

I've never been there, but Angkor Wat would be an awesome site to see.

Snorkeled in the Philippines many times though, you should love that. Which island?

Re: Cambodia, anyone?

Can anyone find it on Google earth and post a pic? I would but I'm at work. Sounds like an enlightening trip. I love learning about ancient cultures. I would like to see Macchu Picchu.

Re: Cambodia, anyone?

A firend of mine was walking down some dirt road in cambodia when his friend picks up a jaw bone from the dirt. they both proceed to sing " it'a a holliday in cambodia and we're all wearing black" dead kennedies!

He said it was a bueatiful country, but you have to always remember were you are. he had to get the hell out after not paying what the cops at a check point wanted.
