Espresso - any fans in the house?

I make espresso at home at least three times a week. Personally, I like illy Dark Roast Fine Grind, but it's somewhat expensive. Anyone have a reasonable alternative? Just curious.

For you espresso fans, how do you take it? I typically use a dribble of of half and half or Coffee-mate Liquid Hazelnut, but I enjoy it black as well.

Don't make it at home, but definately a fan.

Still working through some Kona bought on the islands. Yummy.

Re: Espresso - any fans in the house?

I like espresso and espresso drinks. Just recently bought a coffee maker that includes an espresso maker. (long story short, my cabinets are only 13" high and most new coffee makers are 14-15" tall, the combo espresso machine is short. It was the only thing short enough to fit).
I'm interested in good brands.
I like my coffee and espresso black. Unless I'm making cappuccino!

We've used one of these at home now for a few years. Used every day. The best thing we ever bought.

Fairly typical order for us

30 X Arpeggio (0.230) £ 6.90
50 X Livanto (0.230) £ 11.50
20 X Capriccio (0.230) £ 4.60
50 X Volluto (0.230) £ 11.50
10 X Decaffeinato Lungo (0.240) £ 2.40

Without the colour conversion chart in front of me, can't tell you what's what. But I like the dark gold. And the black. And the purple. They're all pretty good.

Trouble with getting decent coffe machine is that wherever you go the coffee takes like , er well no taste at all. Just brown liquid. Pretty ghastly. Have to say, and not trying to be provocative, but the coffee served in US cafes/restaurants (cheap ones) was surprisingly poor, verging on undrinkable. Chicory?

How much do you pay for your capsules? Considered pretty expensive here, but we've found that we drink less coffee but much better coffee. We haven't bought instant since we bought the machine. So cost wise probably balances out.

If our machine broke, I'd go out and buy another one immediately, that's how high we rate it. Very highly recommended.

We can only get the capsules mail order, no shops stock them. Same in the US?

BTW tea preference in our house is Darjeeling.

The popular brands such as PG Tips, Brooke Bond etc are know in our house as "builder's tea". Terrible snobs are we

PS Chain, sorry about the thread detour.

I've found that to be pretty universal even outside the states.

Didn't know you could get Nespresso here. Had it at a meeting in Europe, was impressed by the machine/quality of coffee.

Certainly true of the UK too. People have just such low expectations. Srved any old crap and they drink it. Seem to think it acceptable and normal

I often wonder if they had the blindfold test whether they could actually tell what it is. Tea? Coffe? Brown liquid?
