Aid in the end of the world!

And he opened the second seal. Revealing a sheep of blue with a cell phone

Yep considering getting one and getting rid of the landline. I make few calls so need few minutes. Want one with total US roaming, expecially in the south (emergency comm when riding the RR in the hills). I am not to concerned with gadgets as I cannot take it to work and it would likely stay in the charger at home except for riding and travel.

Thinking Cingular based on a co-worker and a cheap Motorola looked interesting except the garish chrome key pad. I want something cheap that fills the above spec.

Any suggestions cell phone gurus and addicts?

Re: Aid in the end of the world!

That's exactly what I was looking for. Went with Cingular, 800 minutes, and the Samsung phone for $30 w/ $30 mail rebate.

I've used Cingular (wifes phone) for 4 years, and have no complaints on service or fees.

Re: Aid in the end of the world!

I've had Cingular for over 5 years with no major issues to speak of. My advice however, is don't cheap out on the phone. Crappy phones get crappy reception(may not matter in the city, but could matter out in the boonies) and they break easy.

I've been very happy with my Motorola phones(have had many). Currently have a RAZR and it's been great.

Re: Aid in the end of the world!

Pre-paid = bad. Your minutes expire so you're forced to buy x amount of minutes whether you use it or not. It's actually more expensive than a contract phone.

Re: Aid in the end of the world!

t-mobile was good when i had it. I had the 1k plan for 39 bucks a month. now i have a company phone that i use without any thought to minutes or bills anymore.

see if you can test the phoine for 15 days to see if it covers well in all areas that you wnat to use it. i had an issue with t-mobile when i moved. my reception was poor, but only in my apartment. so i had to make all calls outside.

testing would be next to impossible. I will use it some at home but otherwise it would be all over the south (I cover a wide area in my roaming). Cingular has a map that looks decent except it might have a hole over by Deal's/Telico Plains area that is fairly large. Hard to tell though as they resolution on the graphic is pathetic

Re: Aid in the end of the world!

I've been very happy with Verizon. They seem to have the best coverage. I have a Motorola E815 that I've been satisfied with.

I can tell you that they have no coverage in the Deal's Gap area. As of September 05 anyway.
