Re: GTO done after '06?

Yep... As a rebadged Monaro at least. Rumor is they'll rerelease it in '08 domestically built, but I'm not so sure...

Re: GTO done after '06?

The badging and sheetmetal may be dead, but some of the auto-mags are posting strong rumors that suggest a new Camaro may be released based on the same Zeta-platform chassis architecture.

Re: GTO done after '06?

I considered buying a GTO, especially when they got the LS2 400hp motor. BUT, no trailer towing rating (even though the Monaro is rated for 3500lb, wtf). All I can say is the Challenger had better be rated for towing, because I'm buying one if they make em. I think the Challenger will kill the GM offerings. It actually LOOKS like a Challenger. I don't get the new Camaro (concept). Front end is too pointed, and where did those taillights come from?

Re: GTO done after '06?

Wouldn't that be a Firebird/Trans Am then? That was the Pontiac that shared the F body platform with the Camaro.

Re: GTO done after '06?

I had never heard this, but I guess there was a lot of public animosity with the Firebird/TA name because of some "technical" problems. I loved my TA, hated the Camaro. But another "rumor" is that they won't bring the Firebird back because of those lingering brand name feelings...

Re: GTO done after '06?

I went and looked at a leftover '05 GTO again Saturday for the fifth time. I am SOOOOO close to going ahead and just buying the thing. I can't remember the last time Detroit made anything I wanted this bad.

I know most people don't like them - but for me it's the bee's knees.

They had to pay huge royalties to use the Trans Am name, that's why they won't bring it back.

And then there's this asshole...

I dunno man. I haven't had a sports car since my 96 Z28. It'll be back to high insurance and driving on court supervision because of getting tickets.

Still ... they have a black one with an automatic (yes, I want the 6 speed but the nerve damage in my legs won't really allow it) sitting on the lot right now - closeout 2005 with the LS2.

If it's still there next week I might pull the trigger.

You won't regret it... They're fun, and actually quite comfortable for a sports car! Made quite a few 500+ mile trips and one 3600 mile trip in that car!

Re: GTO done after '06?

The trans am/firebird and camaro/z28 both share the same chassis, engine, suspension, everything. Only difference is the body work and interior. I would still kill to get a 2002 WS6 trans am black/yellow. Then my bike would match!

Detroit didn't. It's a Holden.

Anyways, don't come here asking for help, unless you want to be mercilessly badgered into buying it.

I love them, I don't really have a place for one right now, but I'd love for a friend to buy one so I could drive it.
