Geeky 1972 video describing the internet

For any other geeks out there...

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...43190324622223

It's a film describing the ARPANet, known today as the Internet. The same technology they were using in 1972 is exactly what we use today. Even some of the programs they were running on IMPs and PDP-10s are the same. They mention IMPs quite a lot. They have a new name these days... routers.

Seems apropos considering we rely on what these guys did 30 years ago to get us our .org fix.

Before I had internet, we used to play text-only RPGs on private BBSs, then came modem games of Duke Nukem 3D and Doom 2. Then we found out that you could find porn on the internet, though it would take a good 2 or 3 minutes do download a 800x600 pic of Pam Anderson on our 9600 baud modem. Porn porn porn.

And then there's this asshole...

Just think how far technology would be today if we had only been able to use the internet 30 years ago. Wireless would be a thing of the past already and the next big thing would be in the works.

Oh wait, if it had gone public then it would be like it is today? No one works anymore. They all browse www.fireblades.org.

It changed several times over the decades. There was DARPANet, later NSFNet, and the CIX (commercial internet exchange). The names were later all dropped, and everyone just calls it the internet now.

How ironic. Watching a video through google beta, doing exactly the things today they are talking about.
