Vegas

So I'm planning a trip to Las Vegas around late Sept early Oct. Yes its early but I'm curious as to hotels ppl have stayed at and liked or hated. My bro has been to Vegas in the range of 20+ times and seems to favor the Excaliber so throw down some opinions please.

Oh and if you can throw some "must sees" my way as well I'd like to hear about them.

Additional Info: Trip is most likely going to be a Sun-Fri trip to avoid all the weekend warriors from Cali that drive out there. Flying out of the local airport so my airfare will be slightly higher but Logan is a PITA from what I hear.

Re: Vegas

I've only stayed at the MGM Grand. I went through most of the other "name brand" ones and plan to stay at the MGM Grand again. I was happy there, and I prefer their Poker Room over the others I saw.

Re: Vegas

I'd like to get in a few tournaments while out there, not sure how often they run them or how quick they fill up, but my main interest in going is not gambling, just a few tournys and maybe some slots or something.

Re: Vegas

I stayed at the Excalibur and TBH I thought it was a little run down and needing an update. Next time I go I'd like to stay either in the pyramid at Luxor or at the Bellagio. The Wynn is absolutely exquisite but expect to pay a LOT of money to stay there.

Not to be missed:

-Bellagio gourmet dinner buffet

-ANY Cirque du Soleil show

Also I recommend buying a case of cheap bottled water somewhere OFF the strip. It is hotter than **** there and you will be boned $3.50 to $5 for a bottle of water on the strip.

And then there's this asshole...

Re: Vegas

All of the major hotel/casinos have nice(r) rooms. Ones I'd favor over the Excalibur would be Caesar's, MGM Grand, Bellagio, Paris, Monte Carlo, New York, etc. I've heard many good things about Mandalay Bay, but it's clear at the southern edge of the strip and a good distance from most places.
Then again, Excalibur, MGM, New York and Monte Carlo are at that end as well, just closer to the rest.
There are a lot of trams/monorails that connect the dots, though, so if you're smart about it you can make it to the northern parts of the major strip without a whole bunch of walking. Circus Circus and the Stratosphere are farther up and you'll want a ride ther if you want to see them.
Just depends on how much scratch you want to spend.
Same goes for what to see/do. What do you like and how much do you want to spend?
That many nights you'll be able to hit all the attractions.

EDIT: Phobe, the rooms at the Luxor suck. Not really a nice play to stay, just a fun place to check out.

I'll disagree...we stayed there the last time out. Our room was in one of the towers, not the pyramid. The room was very nice. Believe they'd just been renovated.

Re: Vegas

The Wynn I dont fall under High Roller status so that is not a hotel I plan on staying at.

I'm not sure as to what to see out there, I dont even know what to expect so I guess I should have asked how much scratch to put aside for a budget.

I dont want to stay at a hotel thats too far off the strip cuz I dont want to spend 1/2 my vaca in a taxicab. And my bro said the luxor stinks like pee and wouldnt stay there again.

Re: Vegas

If you want central strip, stay at Caesar's or the Mirage.

Re: Vegas

MGM ran several tournaments a day. The ones during the week were lower buy-in than that weekend ones. (Lower payout too, of course.) But, that was last August, so it could have changed. We plan to go back this August.

Seriously though, the room we stayed in was very nice and didn't smell like pee.

What'd ya think I am some sorta rookie.

My friend was down in Atlantic City for something a couple weeks back and told me they ran tournys all day so I'm hoping Vegas is along the the same lines or better.

Re: Vegas

I've stayed at the Luxor and the Golden Nugget. The former was pretty cool, though a little small. The latter was pretty run-down. Either way, you're missing the point if you're spending much time in your room while in Vegas anyway.

Is a paradigm worth 20 cents?
