Re: Possible move to PA
I've passed through that area on the way to Pittsburgh to see the Steelers a couple years ago. It looks like there would be some pretty nice roads for riding, based on the look of the area. I didn't do much exploring, but we stopped for gas there before we made it the the 'Burg. There's some nice country roads from what I saw.
You are in for a complete shock at the amount of off-season you will have when it comes to riding. The Pittsburgh area gets more snow than I do here, because of the lake-effect snow. It's not just the cold and the snow. Even when the snow clears, there is so much salt and gravel on the roads, it is not worth the risk and the mess to ride. You also have to be very careful in the fall, because the leaves turn and then begin to fall. After a rainstorm, you can hit areas of road that are as slippery as ice. You're gonna have to learn when and where to ride safely.
I don't mean to scare you, because we do have nice winters once in a while. I'm sure you'll find plenty of great roads for riding. It's also nice living close to a city. Pittsburgh is a great city. It's probably the only city I've ever gone to that I think I would be able to live in. Kinda like a small town that just grew up into a nice friendly city!
By the way, I'm about 3.5 to 4 hours from Johnstown. Good luck, and let us know what you decide to do.
