Backup Exec

Anyone here have real experience with Veritas Backup Exec? I am fighting a problem from hell and was wondering if anyone else had a real solution to this problem.

Exchange agent can't backup/restore mailbox-level. Access is denied. Gone through all of the crap Veritas has stated. None of it works. I'm in a pinch here and am starting to get frustrated... Never a good thing...

Re: Backup Exec

Which version?
Are you backing up the entire store or just the public folders and mailboxes, or both?

Re: Backup Exec

BE 9.1. Public Folders and Individual malboxes. Wish I had done the store level, but mailbox level was more important.

Re: Backup Exec

Do you have a support contract? If you can spare the couple hours, upgrade to v10.1. I've found Veritas tech support to be mediocre. They don't understand what I tell them half the time... Yay for offshoring

Re: Backup Exec

Suppose I could upgrade. Pinch is, our mail server had a catastrophic failure (seems RAID 5 doesn't protect against data corruption if the drive starts spewing bad data) and I have rebuilt the box. BE 10 should restore a BE 9 tape, right?

I have no experience with that...I don't see why not though.

Re: Backup Exec

Now for the big question, anyone know where I can locate an evaluation copy of BE10?

Re: Backup Exec

You should be able to restore individual mailboxes down to the email level if you are backing up that side.
If you did the full information store you could restore the whole thing in one shot, but I don't know why you can't restore individual mailboxes.
If you're getting access denied double check the beagent user to to make sure it has the correct rights on the server, and that the service is started.

If you have a support contract, call them...it's a free download off their website. Just takes a couple hours to get the invite.

That depends on whether you're doing brick level backup or mailbox level.

Thanks... I'll have to see when the contract expires.

I've tried everything I know to try. I tried administrator and a user I created just for backups. I have made sure they've been delegated Full Access via Exchange System Manager. I have given them explicit assignments to the server object and the Storage Groups. I had a user (and only one...) that I used to back it up with, but that user no longer has rights after the server rebuild. I can see the remote files. I can see the Exchange Objects. Just can't see the mailbox level objects...

Brick level lets you back up individual emails. Mailbox level is just that...the whole mailbox, can't really select anything inside.

Ok, definitely brick level then. Just went in to BE and looked at the restore selection. I can go down to item level.
