Looks like the PD is going to require me to have a home number as well as a cell... The last thread was over a year old so I thought ad start a new one. For those of you with it, any complaints?

Most things I'd heard had all been good up until yesterday. One of the guys at work tried to call home (he has Vonage). After a few rings, voice mail picked up. Only problem is it wasn't his voice mail. He double checked the number (thought maybe he forgot his home number). Tried it again and same thing; he got some other person's voice mail.

He calls customer service and that is a whole other story. He first talked to a rep named "Joe" who is most definitely from India and speaks broken english. After a few frustrating minutes talking with this guy, he gets connected to Tech Support and spoke to a rep which sounded like english was his first language. I didn't stick around to hear the final result; but I assume he got everything figured out.

If they're making you have a home number, are they paying for it?

Nope, they give us a pager, expect us to have a cell, then require us to have a home phone just in case.

A friend of mine just got it and i helped him set it up. It isn't flawless.
The device they send you only supports two lines. If you need 3 lines, for example, they send you two of the devices. Nowhere in the instructions does it state that you can't hook up two of them without using a router. Why would i assume that it would? because they want you to connect your computers and router BEHIND the unit they sent. But due to an unavoidable IP confilct, won't work.
The instructions they send also don't mention that to install it behind a router you must forward ports 10000-20000 udp. Found that in the FAQ. I doubt it would have been a FAQ if it were in the instructions.
Yes, the tech support guy was not speaking what i consider to be english. No, he didn't have the knowledge to help anyway.
The device should support four lines. The lines are split between jacks (1 and 2), and that sucks for a two line phone.
Basically, the equipment they sent sucks, the support sucks, and the verdict on service isn't in yet. It's cheap, and it at least half-way works.
Considering that you don't even want a home line and the price.... try it.

Edit: the forwarding options and such are pretty cool.... You can make it ring your celly at the same time it rings your home among more.

For your purposes, i say go for it. But don't be surprised if there're some bumps in the road.

Get that in writing from the department. Then you can use the phones as a tax writeoff.

Friends have it and love it. I'd go to it, but no broadband option in my Apt.
