cell phone etiquette

[copied from the Men's Health e-newsletter]

I don't have a cell phone. And I don't want one. A whole multi-billion dollar industry has been built around:
"Hey, whatchadoin'?"
"Nothin'."

Not too long a ago I was on the late-night train coming home from New York. It was dark and quiet, except for one idiot on his cell, chatting it up in what my mom would call his "outside voice." Apparently, his wife's a jerk and so is his girlfriend, he's got prostate trouble, and he's made some bad investments... Thanks for sharing, pal.

Then, "Hold on, I've got another call." OMG! He yaps for a minute with the new caller and then says the words that sent me scrambling for a pen:

"Take my number and call me back tomorrow."

So I did.

Me: Hey, whatchadoin'?
Him: Nothin'. (Long pause) Who is this?
Me: The guy sitting behind you on the train last night.
Him: How did you get this number?
Me: Dude, what don't I know about you....

I continued to rip into him and ended with the promise of calling him on a regular basis, just to remind him to not be so rude to others.

Speak softly.

Re: cell phone etiquette

There was a time where I averaged ~2k-2300mins/month which isnt bad compared to some important ppl so I cant complain about cell phone usage.

BUT for those damn ppl that absolutely must let everyone around them know they have a cell phone by YELLING into their phones in public I wicked want to say to those ppl "Hey everyone has a cell phone so you're not cool, in fact you must be a loser for trying to draw attention to yourself so ppl think you're cool for having a cell phone"

That's funny. You do realize that Men's Health is a gay lifestyle magazine though, right? He probably called the guy to ask for a date.

And then there's this asshole...

Re: cell phone etiquette

Went to the mall last night with my wife & girls to get an ear piercing done for the 5 year old. Just after getting inside we came upon a shoe shine kid set up at a little keyosk that was yapping so loud we couldn't hear ourslves speak. All that was comming out was my n-word this & my n-word that..... totally annoying.

I use a Blue Tooth headset often but try to keep my conversations low enough so they don't bother anyone.

Re: cell phone etiquette

I had a Nokia 51xx phone for over 5 years before I finally bought a razor in December. When I got it of course I qualified for all the upgrades known to man. I stuck with the same 250 minutes a month plan I've had for 3-4 years because I don't even use that many. Tha majority of my calls last 1-2 minutes. and most of them are just "we're going for a ride I'll be at your house in a few minutes"

I HATE talking on the phone. If its important enough you come find me and say it to my face.

if you can't convince them, confuse them.

Re: cell phone etiquette

I knew I should have been more quiet. I just couldn't help myself though. Sheep called, then Phobe, afterwards some other guy. All the female problems were Phobe's by the way. It was all caused by his recent helmet purchase. I was trying to be a mediator so Phobe could get advice from Sheep. He just didn't want to call himself.

Whew, I'm glad that's out.
