Things that go BOOM!

I regularly receive shipments on dry ice. It seemed a waste yesterday to just let it go away when there are so many fun things to do with it. I had an empty 20-ounce plastic Diet Coke bottle and brought it home with the dry ice. I put some ice in it, sealed it up and threw it out onto the yard. I showed Alex and told him there was going to be a big boom, and explained why. He seemed to understand. Well, thirty minutes go by and no boom. So I did what anybody would have done—I walked over and squeezed the bottle. It gave a little, so I figured it could use some more ice. Meanwhile, TB and ccwilli3 had just returned with pizzas and had no clue what I was doing. I picked up the bottle and walked into the garage, all the while shaking the bottle. I got about two feet from the door leading inside, when BOOM! the thing exploded in my hand. Everybody grabbed their ears, and Alex was screaming “WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT?” It took TB about 10 minutes to understand what happened. He said he was thinking, "WTF! My wife just set off a bomb in our garage?!! Huh?!" Ccwilli3 said it was the loudest noise he ever heard and that the shockwave was quite impressive. After I finished laughing, I excused myself to go upstairs and change my shirt, which was getting blood on it from the shrapnel that had hit my stomach. I have feeling back in my hand today, but the waist band on my jeans isn’t so comfy.

Re: Things that go BOOM!

I would have poked the bottle with a rake or threw stuff at it LONG before I picked the thing up!

Yeah, I saw a video where two kids did that. ... Except it was Chlorine and ammonia. It wasn't pretty.

No this tire hunted Mary down! This tire murdered Mary!

We used to do that with pool acid and aluminum foil in 2 liter bottles.

VERY loud booms!

I bet you had to change more than your shirt!

Re: Things that go BOOM!

That's some funny stuff.

I guess that's why they won't allow it on commercial airliners anymore.

You apparently never played with firecrackers as a kid. Glad you're ok..sort of.

Re: Things that go BOOM!

Do TB a favor and don't "play with fire" anymore (or chemical reactions).

It's all fun 'til someone loses an eye. (or a midriff) Glad you're okay.

you intrigue me, what exactly do you mean by "pool acid"

SB don't go and blow your hands off in front of your kid, kind of a bad example to set you know. But atleast it was WAAAAAAAAY above his head.

if you can't convince them, confuse them.

Don't want to hear it when TB and C3 teach the little one to wheelie and play with firecrackers
