Hey is this safe? flat panel mounting...

So I have a (Vizio L 37) 37" LCD that weighs about 65# or so. Today on the way home from work I got a mount from www.peerlessmounts.com , model RTFPA-220S. The recommended mounts for my TV on their site dont match what I have - but what I have seems to be working?

So anyways I have that mounted in the wall, through a stud, and am concerned about using the vesa 100x100 pattern on the back of the TV for mounting - just seems kinda smallish? I tried their other pattern but they dont match so I had to go with the smaller one.

Just wondering if anyone else has a setup like this and/or if I should remove it immediately. Don't really wnat to come home tomorrow or wake up to a tv smashing on me in my sleep.

Thanks
-ct

why put off today what you can wake up late and forget to do tomorrow.

Re: Hey is this safe? flat panel mounting...

All it has are those 4 little screws holding the bracket to the TV?

The aluminum on the mount looks good, but I agree, that bracket looks smaller than I'd like.

Is it just me, or have we been referring to old threads quite a bit today?

Either way, I think there were only a few of us around back then...lucky for SSG I guess.

Re: Hey is this safe? flat panel mounting...

Yikes. I hate those mounts for that very reason. I'd be too paranoid to not put a pile of pillows under the TV.

You saw the mount I had mine on right?

You need to get that Mexican back over and dust the place.

It's amazing how stupid some people can be.

Re: Hey is this safe? flat panel mounting...

I guess it's just me, but depending on what those "four little screws" actually screw into within the TV it looks okay to me. I mean, based on the pics my concern is w/ the back panel of the TV rather than the screws.

BTW, what camera did you use for to take those?

They are 4mm screws I think, which scares me further - but they go into a reasonable (16-14?) gauge steel bar inside the tv that is punched and tapped (not by me either )

Casio Exilim Z850 that I borrowed from a friend, the SD's date format is different

I'd remove it but then I'd have to remove the matching rug too

I did, thats a solid mount for sure but I have my TV at horizonal angle which that mount didnt accomplish. I would have wanted a mount like you had too cause it was also way cheaper .

I gotta say it scares me as well but I plan on checking it often and only pulling it off the wall and angling it when in use. most of the time it will just sit there like a big picture.

I felt better taking the stand off, cause the stand weighed about 5# on its own

Yes

I was also questioning the ability of the two big wood screws (#14 x 2.5") going into a stud...how long it will be before my house caves in.

The bracket is small and not very beefy, and offers lots of flex, but not enough at forward lean that it scares me too much....for now.

don't talk about Jetbdude like that, he's back to being a full fledged canuck again.

all of those screws worry me.

here's a fun game. get someone with OCD in there to look at it and see how nervous they become.

if you can't convince them, confuse them.
