Re: SIGHHHH...

I have Windoze XP on my current computer and have Microsoft Works installed. I hate it!!! The word and spreadsheet programs suck (or I just haven't learned them well yet)! I long for my old Word and Excel programs that I had on Windoze 98SE, with which I was very comfortable. If I copy those 2 programs onto XP will they work? (I doubt it).

Re: SIGHHHH...

'Copy'? As in drag-drop-n-pray? Probably not, but it won't cost anything to find out.

If you have the install CD (or did they come on 5.25 floppies? ), it should go easy.

Re: SIGHHHH...

There's usually a buttload of registry entries that go along with those programs to make them work....but the entries themselves might not work on XP if copied from 98 anyway.

Re: SIGHHHH...

If you have the CD, just install it. Drag and drop more then likely will not work

Re: SIGHHHH...

Sorry for the vagueness. *What I meant was 'install' from another CD - please listen to what I mean, not what I say * . *Anyway I know that, for instance, the word program on Microsoft Works and the actual Word program from former OS's aren't compatible. *Will Excel and Word work with the XP OS? *Can you tell that I am a computer idiot?!

edit: whoops! Didn't read the other posts after 2OH's before responding. At any rate, guess I'll just try it and see if I can't conjure up the black/blue screen of death .

Shite, now I can't find the friggin CD!!! Does anyone else hate Microsoft Works, or is it just me? (read: I am an idiot).

Re: SIGHHHH...

Depends on how old, but my best guess is that it will. I've seen Office 97 run on WinXP

Yep

...now you get to figure out to which part that applies to

Yeah, Works sucks, always has, almost certainly always will. It's like MS's lite/teaser version of Office, their bread-n-butter.

Why does Billy pull this sh*t??!! Jesus, if it works, don't fix it. Word and Excel were just fine in my book. I am almost to the point of reformatting my hard drive and going back to good ole 98SE

Gates!

Re: SIGHHHH...

You gotta realize Microsoft is a marketing company, not a software company. They come up with great ideas for software, come up with a rough product, then as people buy into it they put out service packs and patches for it to fix some of the bugs. Then a year later they start from scratch and it starts all over again

Well, that is enlightenment here, and it sucks! *In that case, Bill Gates * .

edit: And, BTW, it seems the phokkers are going backwards!
