FedEx planes dodge Thunderstorms in Memphis

Someone made this cool little movie showing radar tracks of the nightly FedEx "push" into Memphis as a line of Thunderstorms approached.

Re: FedEx planes dodge Thunderstorms in Memphis

Yeah, it's in the news right now.

There were a couple of guys from the northeast that went straight through it...they came out looking disoriented.

Pretty impressive watching them dodge the storms and shoot little clear gaps, good electronics on those planes now.

Having been through the FedEx "push" in a little Cessna, I can tell you that it is a sight to see. Planes stacked for miles to land.

Don't count out the ATC folks providing vectors for storm clearance.

Re: FedEx planes dodge Thunderstorms in Memphis

A few years back at Grattan after the Saturday races while the sun was setting, a huge thunderstorm rolled in over Grand Rapids. We were sitting in the upper paddock by the campfire drinking beer and watching the light show.

Every minute or so another corporate jet would take off out of Gerald Ford while we watched them dodge horizontal and ball lightning and more than a couple were entirely "aura'd" by the horizontal strikes. I imagine it was pretty interesting for the flight crews, but we were jumping up and down everytime another jet would make it through the maze.

Simply amazing to watch
