Ever wondered what would happen if you put a few grams of Rubidium or Cesium in a bathtub? The beeb shows us the aftermath.

Re: Science Made Fun - Alkaline Metals and Water

Can you buy that metal at the local welding shop?

If so I'll take 20 lbs of each. I like to fish.

It's amazing how stupid some people can be.

That's better than putting hot ice in a cola bottle.

Uh Oh, I may have just given Sunbert an idea.

Re: Science Made Fun - Alkaline Metals and Water

Hot ice? Is that like...water?

Alkaline metals in water is fun.

I had a science teacher in jr high toss a large piece of sodium in a 5 gallon bucket...emptied it quite nicely.

That was a very cool video. We never got to blow stuff up in chemistry.

Re: Science Made Fun - Alkaline Metals and Water

In school we had a science teacher that didn't think things through.....

1st- He had some 7th grade students make home made root beer. He had them make it in large glass apple cider jugs with a cork. Well, of course the corks blew out with the pressure buildup. So, to combat that he had them turn the jugs side ways in the large sinks built into the counter and jam pieces of wood between the cork and the sink. It's a good thing it was a friday. The students arrived on Monday with rootbeer everywhere and glass shards stuck in the suspended ceiling etc etc.

2nd - In one of our classes he made a contact explosive (can't remember exactly what it was composed of but there was iodine) that when wet was stable, but as soon as dry it was pretty "touch sensitive". Well, he had some in a petri dish and dropped a small piece nearby on the counter for his demonstration. Well, you guessed it, the concussion from the piece he dropped set off the stuff in the petri dish sitting on top of a glass beaker. It's just lucky none of the students got hurt as there was glass showered everywhere and purple iodine on the ceiling...roflmao
