rx-8

So im looking to buy a new car anybody have an rx-8, and have input on them. I have not test driven one yet but I really like the look of them, they are so sexy. My only hold back on it is for the winter driving im lookking for something that will be reliable in the winter especially driving 40 min on the highway everyday, So its either one of those or I like the acura rsx, and the honda prelude I've never had a problem with the preludes but they stopped making them in '01 so its hard to find one with low km's any suggestions, thanx

Re: rx-8

Offtopic: My prelude somehow can traverse where plowtrucks can't in the winter. Don't really know why it is so awesome in the winter. After all, it is lowered an inch.

No this tire hunted Mary down! This tire murdered Mary!

Re: rx-8

I wouldn't buy one.

The rotary engine is cool, but there are known reliability issues and they burn a LOT of oil.

Why not try a V6 6-speed Accord coupe? Nowhere near as sexy but more power, less money, better on fuel, cheaper to insure and way more practical than the RX. I test-drove one a few months ago when I was in the car market and it was a blast to drive. (ended up not buying a car, but I would have gone with the Accord)

I think the Lude would also be a better choice, but like you said, a new one won't be an option.

And then there's this asshole...

Re: rx-8

The RX-8 is actually my wife's current choice of what she wants now that her car has been sold. We have driven both the manual and auto transmissions, and while they have an athletic handling feel to them, neither (especially the auto dog) are all that exciting or high performing. They also guzzle gas like mad, and as Phoube pointed out have some issues.
That said, they aren't a bad car and they are pretty good looking, which is why my wife wants one, but there are a lot of reasons I don't want to buy one.
There are actually a lot of better options in that class as far as amenities and power for the price. The RX-8 is not a bang-for-your-buck car in any way.

I know the rx8 is a lot of money but I think it looks sooo good, everytime one passes me I want it even more, the car... and not a lot of people have them is what I like a lot as well, the accord my friend has one its really quick but I dont know, it just seems a little boring to me no offence to anyone even the rsx is a little dull I find but its fun to drive, I would love to have my old '00 prelude type sh back that was a lot of fun

Re: rx-8

For the price of the RX you could get a Miata plus a pretty decent winter beater.

And then there's this asshole...

Re: rx-8

Solara?

I rented one, that thing was boring as hell.

I think a V6 6 spd accord has it over one in every way.

Re: rx-8

What about a Mazda Speed 6, they are pretty nice, even the mazda 6 is good. Our testing here at Ford doesn't show more than average problems with the RX-8, the engine is a good. The only thing that bothers me with it, is that it's special, so parts are going to be difficult to get and working on it is a joke.

Re: rx-8

One of the more infamous tuners around these parts has an RX8 and believe it or not, the damn thing fouls plugs all the time (PITA to replace too from what he says). He has had it in the shop at least 1/2 the time he has owned it (half of 14 months or thereabouts) and is trying to get Mazda to take it back (not going well at present).

zero thumbs up

Re: rx-8

What about an S2000 or G35?

If you have the time and patience you can find a low km/never winter driven Prelude!

Look, lean, believe!!
