Electric Bills

Had a meeting last week about the cost of electricity and how the cost is going up, substancially. The cost associated with the generation of power is going up and in turn will be passed to the consumers.
Rising demand: Economic growth in the U.S. and overseas has increased the demand for energy.
Higher fuel cost: Fuel used to generate electricity (natural gas, coal, oil) is getting more expensive.
Power grid and equipment investments: Much of the nationís electricity grid and many generating plants are aging. Investments are being made to increase transmission and generating capacity and reliability.
Increasing regulations: Utilities are faced with the cost of compliance with environmental regulations and other government requirements.
Volatile wholesale market: Prices in the wholesale power market have increased substantially in recent years and continue to climb.

Just something to think about as we roll into the summer.

What is your cost per KW of power.

It's amazing how stupid some people can be.

Re: Electric Bills

Yeah, foresaw this. Just had new windows in to keep the cooling and heating costs down. Every little bit helps.

Latest bill was 31.00 and normally 80 in the summer.

usually run the flourescents after the conventionals go.

Re: Electric Bills

Windows is one of the major upgrades to your home that can pay for itself in the future. One other thing is flourecent bulbs, when changing bulbs instead of installing regular ones go with the flourecent type. Uses less energy.

It's amazing how stupid some people can be.

Re: Electric Bills

We haven't ran our AC this summer yet. We're shooting for the end of May.

Our latest electric bill was $25.38.

Re: Electric Bills

Damn, I don't think you can run a night lite for that. Some facility charges are almost that much.

It's amazing how stupid some people can be.

Re: Electric Bills

My bill ran $130 last month. The A/C is a must 10 months out of the year. We have had a cool spring so far but you still need the A/C on. I am not looking for the coming months. June, July, August and September are usually a killer.

If I subtracted those my bill would of been less than 10 dollars.

Re: Electric Bills

Sorry. Made a mistake. The $25.38 was our natural gas bill. Electricity was $36.73.

Re: Electric Bills

Oh, and to answer Hammer's question... San Diego Gas and Electric has a very strange way of calculating the price per kWh.

Your house is arbitarily assigned a "baseline". In my case, 368 kWh.
After you go over your baseline, the price starts increasing.

So, our baseline is $0.04676 / kWh.
101% to 130% is $0.05315 / kWh.
131% to 200% is $0.05603 / kWh.
201% to 300% is $0.08293 / kWh.
Over 300% is $0.08293 / kWh.

Natural Gas therms are very similar. We also have lots of fees, such as "Nuclear Material Maintenance" and the like.
