UK Government seeks power to demand encryption keys

Looks like the UK government is passing a law that requires you to provide the private keys needed to decrypt information you may posess.

I personally use all sorts of encryption on a daily basis (e-mails, phone calls, file storage, etc.). If the government wants those keys, I am assuming I can plead protection under the 5th ammendment. Not knowing the intricacies of British law, I don't know if they have similar protections.

Still, this is an indicator of where we are headed in my opinion. Personal privacy in this country has been on an exponentially faster downhill slide for quite a while.

LOL...how can you argue that you have less privacy, when your example notes that you now use encryption technology that didn't even exist for private citizens not too long ago...
