There is a few 2006 models that have it, Mine is the 9857. Check out Crutchfield - free shipping, free ipod adapter (it's only a cable now off the new Alpines ), and of course they include the necessary metra kits to drop it in, wire it, etc .etc.

Pretty nifty too once you get the hang of it...the UI is a little confusing, as the ipod basically works as a storage array and the headunit pulls the content through it I think..but Alpine calls it the iPod Fullspeed® interface for a reason...it honks.

neatest thing is somehow I have mine setup (dont ask) but when I plug it in and go shuffle - it shuffles based on the radio setting. when I unplug it and plug in headphones (like at my desk all day) it goes back to whatever play mode I had it in. Totally kicks ass

The 9857 Has a Biolite display, I like it...has lots of info in a small area.

lol, I thought I should take a picture of something more your speed

Yeah the 9856 is cool, and about 1/2 the cost of the 9857, it just had the simple one line display, didn't have a remote, and a few less features as far as adjustability. Mine is going to be attached to some amps and junk so I wanted some bling. Alpines regular LCD displays are also reminiscent of the sun in their older units with no way to adjust, the Biolite (which I think is just oled?) dims and stuff quite nicely.

Rambling aside, the key to my choice was an adapter for a wired remote that the 9857 has that the 9856 does not. In my case Im connecting it to the factory radio controls and using my cruise control paddles as softswitches, so I needed the hardened interface.

If I just wanted my ipod and and a factory replacement head unit - the 9856 would have been here in January

Yep I wanted a red interface but it seems they don't know the advantage for night driving at the car stereo makers.

Not sure what it is, but my Kenwoods have always been the ones with the changeable illumination, and despite great night vision for other things...I always came back to the blue or green, the alpine is kind of a baby blue, close to white, which actually matches most of the stuff inside the Ridgeline half decent.

Red light does not affect night vision I have heard (and for myself it seems true). Thus when you glance from the road down your night vision doesn't change. I find red gauges in a car much easier on long trips.
