Waterlogged Cell Phone

So in a moment of brilliance last night, my son decides to jump into a pool with his cellphone in his pocket and it's now filled with water. I took out the battery and let it dry overnight but there is still lots of moisture inside the screen. Should I just pitch it in the trash or is there a chance this thing can still be resuscitated?

Re: Waterlogged Cell Phone

If the battery was taken out within half an hour, it can be saved. Some types LCD displays can be attacked in seconds by water when powered up. Hopefully the phone died before it could drive the display for significant time. Put the phone (minus battery) in a small box with a few holes and aim a hair dryer into it. Several hours should do the trick. The LCD display is temperature sensitive, so it will appear dark when hot. Avoid temperatures much above 220F. Do this in the garage so your house doesn't burn down.

Re: Waterlogged Cell Phone

Would a food dehydrator work to speed up the process?

I usually just put the stuff in an eletric toaster oven for 150 or so for a couple hours.

But yeah, assuming its pool water - and you can bake it dry, it should be fine. What kinda phone, samnsung?...might be a little more sensitive to the whole LCD thing. If a Nokia (cheaper models the better) you could probably use the thing underwater if you wanted and it would still work ok

why put off today what you can wake up late and forget to do tomorrow.

Just put it down in the middle of the carpet and spill some wine on it. Problem solved

I had my LG in the front pocket of my leathers and rode through some rain... had to throw it out.

And then there's this asshole...

It's (was) a Samsung. After closer inspection, I can see water sloshing inside the screen...sorta like a lava lamp. It's toast...

Re: Waterlogged Cell Phone

Put it in the microwave. Take video of it, if you do not mind. I have not tried that yet.

It's amazing how stupid some people can be.
