Off-Road tires

Due to several recent events, including LTL and I being stuck in a mud pit for 5 hours last night, I am looking at getting new tires for Nigel, my Land Rover.

I have the same question over on the rover boards, but I thought I would pose the question here...

If you had your choice of tires for moderate off-road use, what would you choose? Just from the outset, Goodyear MTRs are NOT available in my funky rim size. Pretty much everyone else makes something, I just have to order it.

Right now I am looking at Nitto Grapplers. Anyone have experience with them?

Re: Off-Road tires

What size is your tire? I work at Discount Tire co, and I could check some prices and availability for ya. How off-road are you looking? BFG all terrain? BFG mud terrain? MTRs are all my jeep friends at work will run.

Re: Off-Road tires

What model Rover is it? Usually, there are several sizes that would fit. I realize you would probably prefer the 255, but theres just nothing in that size so far.

Re: Off-Road tires

Yeah, like I said in the original post, it's a funky rim size. No, I can't downsize because the brake rotors and calipers on the thing are huge.

Re: Off-Road tires

It would seem that everyone else is having the same issue with the wheel size...

So ignoring the wheel size for a moment, any other reccomendations out there?

Way too much howling for NDD's app.

Re: Off-Road tires

OK, here's the pics. We spent a few hours inside while poor NDD slogged mud. It got dark, we could hear the mosquitos through the glass, and some "canine" came up and started howling. Good times.

My famous last words before going in, "Dude, we're alone, don't get stuck".

"Don't worry, I've never got stuck."

NDD, you should talk to your mechanic about this. Changing tire sizes might void your warranty and mess the computer all up (unless you know how to hack it for tire size).

For a camera phone, these came out pretty good.

Re: Off-Road tires

dude if your going to be going off road like that you might consider getting a civic or something more suited for the application
