Here, hold my beer, watch this...

That's how stupid I still feel today, after having competed in a mini triathlon (1/2 mile swim, 12 mile bike, 3 mile run) yesterday. The only reason I was able to finish is that I somehow managed not to drown during the swim.

A few things I learned:

(1) In the future, swim at least once as part of my training (or lack thereof).
(2) Don't assume that just because a mini triathlon is geared towards beginners and veterans alike that the pond you'll be swimming in will be shallow enough to stand up in should you have trouble.
(3) Nike Shox SUCK! 1 mile into the run and the left shoe's heel came apart on me, causing me to turn my ankle...and walk most of the last two miles.

I'll try to be nicer when you start trying to be smarter.

At least you did it. Dog paddling usually isn't conducive to fast times though.

Nike running shoes have crappy quality...their sizing varies and the soles deteriorate quickly.

At least you did it. I want to, but swim as well as a stone.

I'm training for a marathon right now. Just did 10 miles this morning.

Props to you; the reason why I stuck with adventure races and run/bike/runs was because I am scared to swim.

Re: Here, hold my beer, watch this...

Gives you a new appreciation for the IronMan athletes... 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run. Add up all the swimming, biking, and running I've done over the last 5 years and I'm close to those numbers... F-that.

I believe riding, like life, is 10% what happens and 90% how you react.

Sunny has been through several pairs of running shoes. She says Nikes suck as well. I think her current ones are Mizuno or Brooks?

Is a paradigm worth 20 cents?

I'd always had good, high mileage luck with the Nike "Air Pegasus" series of running shoes. Not until this $120 POS pair of Shox have I ever had any problems.

Re: Here, hold my beer, watch this...

Yeah, I always had good luck with Nikes too. I have a pair of shox that are still fine, but they've had very few miles. Maybe 100.

Good on you for doing that! My GF is bugging the hell out of me to do a "sprint" tri with her.

Did this physical fitness stuff have anything to do with your snuff decision?

Well, here's to you for doing the competition!

And here's to you for not using your head enough to train in all three events before competing.

And I haven't tried Nike Shox but the Nike Impax I have right now seem to do me very well...

Start training for your next one.

Yes, they kinda go hand-in-hand. Ever since I started working out a couple of months ago, the tobacco habit had really been bugging me.

Re: Here, hold my beer, watch this...

Nike sucks! When I was running alot I would get really bad shin splints running, to the point where I went to the doctor for it. He made two suggestions, custom orthotics and New Balance sneakers. I did both and never had a problem again.
