The view from our backyard.

The best fireworks we'll see all day.

Re: Shuttle Launch!!

I got busy in the garage working on all the bikes today and almost forgot about the launch until the reminder on my cell phone went off. We sometimes go over to the coast to see it a little closer but we are only about 35 miles west of the cape and it was running close to launch time. The view from the backyard isn't too bad.

SMKEATR, did you hear (or feel) the sonic boom from your location? I did not. This was the first time I was in Orlando for a shuttle launch. Back home in Melbourne, this is something that always happens.

You have heard a sonic boom on launch??? I don't think your correct Colryn. When the shuttle re-enters for landing - you can hear the double-boom. This One is for the nose of the shuttle and one is for the tail. When the shuttle landed at Edwards Air Force Base all the time during it's first years of flight - I could hear the boom and see the shuttle from my house in Bakersfield. I've never heard of a sonic boom on launch.

Re: Shuttle Launch!!

It was pretty sweet to see that we are finally back in space, and now we have to a lot of work to do to get back on track with our future vision of exploration.

Enjoy the shuttle launches while you can, 2010 no more. 2012 we will see the new vehicles in Ares 1 and Ares V a few years after that.

Never trust a big butt and a smile...
