Apple and Sun to Merge via Google?

For all of us in the Apple Army -

John C. Dvorak wrote an article about Apple and Sun merging courtesy of Google CEO Eric Schmidt. The Apple/Sun deal has been one of the most persistent rumors in Silicon Valley since the 80s, but Dvorak brings up some good points.

The article is here.

Apple keeps its kick ass desktop products and OS. Re-brand Solaris as something to fit the picture, graft AFP onto it, and now you have a nice data center OS with Grid Computing capabilities, the Zettabyte Filesystem, and not to mention the Niagra processor, perfect for Web Hosting and other general duty servers that have low CPU intensity but high process fork rates such as e-mail.

Dvorak focuses on the personalities involved, and figures that if Eric Schmidt can run Google, surely he can run the Apple/Sun hydra.

I have a motorcycle addiction... and I get my fix elsewhere.

Dvorak is an ass. I find it amazing the people that continually trumpet the doom of a profitable company like apple. Al Gore is also on the board, does that mean Apple will reinvent the internet

I don't think Apple is doomed... quite the contrary. I think the Apple/Sun merger could have a lot of positive push for Apple.

Solaris is just a bit more ummm weighty than OSX.

Wonder how that will work out when all the Appleheads find out they need to actually type in something at the command line . . .

and your girlfriend too.

There in lies the power of MacOS X. You can run UNIX/Linux command apps, do video, or office apps. Interface is one of the easiest and yet you can drop into dbx if you desire

I agree with Abtech. OSX is nice but I think Solaris has more ass-end than OSX. OSX is a clean OS, but for enterprise use, I do not know if it is there yet.

I think hard nosed geeks such as Sheep are uncommon to the general Mac public. I do not see teenagers rushing to find out the power of the command line. Now this was the first thing I did when I recieved my iMac. I opened up a command line to see how the file system was structured.
