I can't say I'm surprised, but it is a terrible loss for Aussieland. He has done fantastic things for conservation and tourism.

RIP, and best wishes to his wife and kids

I thought a croc would be his ultimate demise. What a shame...RIP.

No kidding! All the crazy, deadly animals he's messed with in his life...

Meeting that guy was one of the main reasons I wanted to go to Australia

Really sad, but by a stingray, it's really surprising...

What a wierd end for a man who was in contact with so much dangerous animals than a stingray!!! fate, I guess....

Re: The Croc. Hunter Dead

What a bummer.

All of my young nieces and nephews can quote incredible animal stats/figures and have a good grasp of what animals can and can't hurt you, and what to do around the dangerous ones. I am quite sure there are hundreds of thousands if not millions of kids that will be deeply effected by this.

A great service was provided by Irwin, and he started a movement in nature/animal shows the world is better for.

He will be missed. RIP.

I still hope to one day go to Australia and see his Zoo.
He was/is my favorite wildlife personality on tv. He always treated the animals with such care and respect.
RIP.

Re: The Croc. Hunter Dead

I got up early this morning and read it on FOX news.com. Needless to say, I was shocked and in disbelief. Steve Irwin is one of those "heroes" that should live forever. This tragic incident goes to show that we are NOT invincible.

R.I.P. Steve Irwin - we will miss you. The world will miss you.

Thats the biggest reason I never hated on the guy, as weird as he may have seemed, his motivations were based around education and conservation.
It's really sad that he will not be there to continue this, because IMO no one else really does it as well as he did.

This is definetely a sad day, RIP Croc. Hunter

The weird part for me is that for years we all watched this guy go pulling animals out of their burrows and dwellings with his shouting narrative, the whole thing peppered with crikey! and ain't she a beaut!, but not one took him out or even dissuaded him from carrying on. But his death came in the silence of the sea, and without any warning or provocation at all. Just odd.

why put off today what you can wake up late and forget to do tomorrow.

Excellent. I am a firm believer in when it's your time to go - it's your time to go. There is nothing you or anyone can do about it.

Re: The Croc. Hunter Dead

I heard about it at work this morning and had to goto the office and bring up foxnews.com to read it before I would believe it.

His shows were always interesting to watch and I figured decades down the road that his children would have their own shows of a similar nature and he would end up making appearances on them when he would be in his 70's or something like that.

I guess in the end he probably never knew what hit him and died perfectly happy at that moment...

RIP Croc Hunter......

+1billion

I like all the other nature shows but his was always by far the best. The energy he had and love for what he was doing was just simply without equal.

I feel sorry for his kids. Especially his son Bob who will never have any memories of his father except for what he sees on video. I don't doubt both of the kids will turn out just like him and continue on the family tradition (Australia Zoo was started by Steve's parents). His daughter Bindi said in the interview a few years ago about when Steve was holding Bob feeding a croc, "I wanna be just like my dad when I grow up"

if you can't convince them, confuse them.
