I grew up after the great run of championships engineered by the "Greatest Coach Ever" but growing up in Boston this guy was a great presence that had a huge influence on a city. He was a leader in bringing the best players into Basketball regardless of race, all this in a town that wasn't known for being at the forefront of racial issues.

Re: RIP Red

Can't say I knew much of Red Auerbach but I leared a lot about him listening to Frank Deford on NPR and reading SI. Hope he's appropriately recognized.

"Hey Johnny what're you rebelling against?"
"Whaddya got?"
