PHOTOSHOP EXPERTS! I need some help...

If anyone here is well versed in Photoshop, I could use some help. I just started using it yesterday (ver. 7) and I cant figure out how to do what I am trying to do....SO if any expert chime in and are willing to help on a very simple image, I'll post up what I am looking for. I don't know if it would be easier to post up a jpeg or just email the photoshop file. Thanks- James

Re: PHOTOSHOP EXPERTS! I need some help...

I am pretty flexible with the idea, but generally here is what I'd like to do.
I 'shopped some solar panels on the roof of this covered bridge. Now I think I'd like to have the picture in greyscale, but what I really want to is to have light emanating from inside the bridge in color. I want it to look as if there is a bright light on inside the bridge....strange request, I know, but I've only been using photoshop for a couple days and am having trouble making it happen.

Re: PHOTOSHOP EXPERTS! I need some help...

To get it in grey scale, you should be able to go to "Image | Adjustments | Desaturate". You could change the whole project to work in B&W by going to Mode | greyscale, however you mentioned wanting to add light in color.

For adding the light itself, i would do it mostly freehand on a new layer (icon at the bottom of the layers palette) then you can adjust the filtering and opacity of it separate from the rest of the image. esentially i would select the entrance to the bridge and the cut-outs on the site as well as the ground areas around it that light will be cast on. Then i'd fill it with a very light yellow and use the Filters | Blur | Gausian Blur option to fuzz it out. Then i'd probably paint in some highlights and add another layer under it and give it some haze around where the light will bend out from the corners.
