Re: I just picked up a

I just bought a 17 in LCD Samsung 172n.
Only $379 through BestBuy after $100. mail-in.

It was a choice between this or the Sony 15' sd-(something).
The Sony was $350. after rebate.

It was a hard choice, but I have heard nothing bad about either, and my mom has a Sony that is 2 yrs old with no problems.

I have 14 days to exchange it, so does anyone have pro's or cons to either one?

They both have similar stats, except Sony is 15' and 400-1 color ratio, where as the Samsung is 17', built-in pwr converter, and I can not find the real color ratio, I have seen 450:1 and 350:1.

Oh damn
And I looked online before I went out shopping!
Although I have not heard a lot good about the Dell's on different rating places.

The Planar though, hummm?!
I gotta look into that.

I think it already has a pixel out. When the screen is black I have one green pixel!
Its only 30 minutes old!

Yep, it's dead. Not unusual, but not what you paid for, either.

Re: I just picked up a

Sorry, they sell items made buy:

'Hyundai V770 17' .27mm CRT'

I have seem their cars!!

Kidding, but buy most of the prices I have seen, I got a good deal.

Now I am just trying to set the thing up so that everything looks as clear as I saw it in the store.

Any suggestions for setting on a 17' monitor?
I am running it at 32bit, 1280x1024 with a 122 DPI for fonts, and larger icons. It seems to be pretty clear. I gets a little blury under 1152x864.

The most important thing, I think, is to run it at its native resolution, ideally using a DVI cable. The rest...

Re: I just picked up a

I'm still not convinced about those LCD screens. *I stare at one for several hours a day at work, and I have a CRT at home, and prefer my CRT over that one as far as clarity goes. *LCD is much easier on the eyes, and definitely a space saver. *Outside of that I'd never get one

edited for clarity

Its an analog LCD.
I didnt have the $$ for the DVI. Nor do I have a computer that supports DVI.
I am on an old HP p3 450mhz! ;:
Yup, sad, but true.

Re: I just picked up a

I use a Samsung SyncMaster 240T on my office computer and a Viewsonic VP230mb on my other system.
Having had LASIK surgery, I will never use a tube monitor on my computer again.
Yes, clarity on some of the higher end tube montiors can be better, espescially on high speed graphics (such as games), but for what I do the Samsung is perfect.

I had the surgery too. a few years back.
One of the reasons for getting a new LCD is that
my old CTR was killing the eyes after a few hours
and I noticed that I did not have the same eye strain after using my laptop.
I figured it had to do with the type of monitor it was.

I think I'll keep this. Unless more pixels go out in, then I may exchange it.

I saw MAG, but they were so inexpensive that I was a little leary about them.

I was already timid about the Samsung over the Sony.
It's so hard to tell now a days.
Everything I read from place to place has opposite opinions about the same products.

Re: I just picked up a

I don't know the exact numbers but the monitors are just like the rest of the electronic industry...there are only a few companies that actually produce them and then everyone else just slaps their stickers on em.

I really wanted one of the 23' widescreens but couldn't afford it.

And I thought my new 17' was huge!
This thing rocks, and the colors are awesome!

I can only imagine about a 23'. That is craziness!
my old ctr was a hp 17', and not even a flat screen,
so the view size on this is wonderful.
